Will an Eco-Fashionista Win Project Runway Again?

The eighth season of Project Runway has just gotten underway. Making some waves this go around is Gretchen Jones, a green clothing designer from Portland, Oregon.

You may recall that back in season five, eco-fashionista Leanne Marshall was crowned queen of the catwalk. After the show, Leanne has continued to work as a eco-fashion designers. From what we could find, Leanne's making handmade dresses and selling them on
Etsy, but her garments haven't exactly changed the fashion world.

Oh, but September is so much much than that fast-paced, magazine editor and celeb filled event that takes up just over one week out of the month. But just over the pond, there’s another– and some would argue better– runway explosion: London Fashion Week. And, wouldn’t you know it, LFW’s schedule just debuted.

Fashion houses are reaching out—far, far out—to clients, and the extra effort is paying off in couture sales. WWD recently discussed the high—and widespread— demand for couture, and we found their tactics to be…well, really interesting. Forget your prototypical snobby reputation of the high-end fashion world—because these houses are going miles (literally) for their clients.

For the next few months, New York City’s Midtown will have a few new residents on its sidewalk– 32 to be exact. The Fashion Center’s Sidewalk Catwalk opened just yesterday featuring 32 mannequins decorated by some of city’s top fashion designers including Diane von Furstenberg, Betsey Johnson, Badgley Mischka, Thom Browne, Jason Wu, and many more. We took a trip to the heart of the Garment District to visit New York City’s latest public art exhibition, which extends from Herald Square to 42nd St

In an exclusive interview with WWD, Givenchy designer Riccardo Tisci kept things, well… exclusive. Starting next month, Givenchy is dropping the runway in favor of an appointment-only preview for their fall couture collection. The ten elaborate evening wear looks will be shown in an 18th-Century
townhouse on the Place Vendôme (in Paris) to top editors and Givenchy’s (royal) clients… and that’s it.

With a recent ash burial for the late Alexander McQueen, the fashion world is obviously still in the grips of a great loss since the designer’s suicide last February. But, McQueen’s fashion legacy carried on this past weekend in a simple men’s collection at Milan Fashion Week under the direction of longtime McQueen assistant and now brand Creative Director, Sarah Burton. Yes—the late designer was known for his wacky and fantastical men’s collections, but somehow Burton’s u

“The ever-sharp Cynthia Rowley acknowledged the relevance of Resort by taking her collection to the streets in a bus that stopped for sidewalk shoots, as pictured above, at the Condé Nast and Hearst
buildings.” Fashion shows on delivery, interesting. Maybe in the future, we’ll order up a pizza, put on our jammies, and wait for the runway bus to come to us. We’re only a few days into Graduate Fashion Week London 2010, and trends are all over the map. From super girly to super, well, not, graduates are pushing the creative envelope. There’s so much talent on the runway that Alberta Ferretti (this year’s chair of the judging panel) might just have to draw the week’s winning name out of an ultra-fashionable hat. See the trends—terrific and terrible—after the jump.

I remember when we were younger, that was one of my favorite games.Playing dress up with someone else is even funnier that for oneself. And for an imaginary human being made out of paper, super easy. But this time they won’t get immunity. Bob Mackie, the sultan of sequins, is there. The challenge is to crea
