Vintage Fur wear it dont waste it

Fur. Everyone has an opinion about it. I am one of those ‘in the middle’ types, as in I dont strongly agree or disagree. The reason being I will wear fur but only if it’s vintage. I would never go and buy any new fur and I think it would be a shame to let all the vintage fur available get thrown into a landfill.

It wasn’t until the 1980′s, that fur began to get really bad press and it was in the 1990′s when the famous Peta “we’d rather go naked than wear fur” campaign hit the world, which include

Elsa Schiaparelli, Vintage Designer History

This is the first, of what I would like to turn into a series of posts, all about the influential designers of the past. Elsa Schiaparelli has been credited with influencing designers such as Gaultier, Galliano, Kenzo, and Issey Miyake just to name a few. I decided to start with Elsa because, although I have often heard her name mentioned, I never really knew that much about her and I decided to do a bit of research to discover who this woman was and why she was once considered to be Coco Chanel

The September Issue

http://rantnandraven.blogspot.com/
All year, every year, I anticipate it's arrival more impatiently than a child on Christmas Eve. And now, here it is Christmas in August. Call me gluttonous, but with a 726-page fashion feast on my plate, I can't help but drool. And just to add to my delight, who better to grace the cover than one of my favorite fashion icons, Ms. Halle Berry?

Is this a vintage year for you?

Vintage clothing and accessories have always been big news, and never more so than this year.

So what is vintage? Well, there is genuine vintage clothing – classic (and some not so classic) styles and designers which you can pick up in specialist boutiques up and down the UK, or online. Most of these cover every decade right back to the 1920s. Then of course, we have “vintage style” – an up to the minute take on an older style, of which the “flapper” dress, is a great example.

True vintage clothin

Once considered to be the poor cousin of designer jewels, costume jewellery has come a long way.

Advanced technology means that pieces can now glitter and sparkle just as much as their real gem counterparts, often making it difficult to tell to the untrained eye, just what is real and what isn’t – and isn’t guessing half the fun anyway?

But not only that – costume jewellery has in fact become extremely hot property in itself, with even millionairess Nikki Hilton about to launch her own line.

So, re

Would be Good? Vintage Goodwood.

Tomorrow something truly'spesh' is happening (Aug 14-16) Take all that’s amazing about the UK and become a vintage vulture; devour retro-fashions, pick the flesh off a pop-art archive and greedily tear at nostalgic cinema until you are fat and bloated with cultural overload. Then indulge in all things thrifty, sustainable and eco. Place all this in a giant, wet, green field in the countryside of West Sussex and you have the exquisite ‘Vintage at Goodwood’ weekend.

This event will be a triple tequ

Vintage :What's Old is New Again?

I don't have any vintage clothes in my closet.

Firstly because I give to charity most of the clothes I don't use anymore or those who are out of 'fashion' . Remember the impossibly pointed toe shoes. Back in 2006 a friend of mine used to tell me 'Sexy and sophisticated, pointy toe shoes will always have their place in the fashion world.' The pointy shoes have a place in the fashion world now in 2010, but a smaller and getting even smaller place. At least those remaining have a small poited toe.

I want to ride my bicycle

I want to ride my bicycle, I want to ride my bike. Not just any bike you understand, for 18months I have coveted a new set of vintage wheels - but as yet I still haven't met my match. I am still on the quest for 'the one', complete with faded pastel paint and a sizeable basket. A recent trip to Hamster-dam has reignited my search, it's becoming an obsession. Where have all the good bikes gone? I don't have the patience to trawl e-bay or search classifieds, when the right bike appears will I just

We’re all going ladylike!

Finally - outfits to make our mum proud.

As much of the country continues to swelter in the current wave of humidity, it may well not be sunny enough to don a vest top and shorts but we still need to pay homage to the dubious British summer and dress in something light and pretty.

Welcome to the tea dress, ladies.

Worn short or long the tea dress is ideal for those afternoon soirees at The Ritz or a dance at Raffles in Singapore (ok let’s be realistic, it’s great for everything except possibly the

Maybe it’s the summer heat’s getting to us, but we really like the idea of adding some mystery to our apartment walls. So when A Slip of a Girl featured anonymously drawn girdle sketches from the 1940s, well, we joined the secret artist’s not-so-secret fan club. Turns out that the same sketcher has
numerous pieces of models in dresses, hats, and corsets—all for sale on eBay! We love the mixed medium of watercolor, pen, and pencil that work together to exaggerate the female
