Last week Greenpeace International released a report focused on the water-pollution practices of China’s top two textile manufacturers. The report, called Dirty Laundry, clearly documents in photos and with scientific testing that clothes are not the only things coming out of these massive garment factories.

The report is based on a year-long investigation of two major Chinese suppliers, the Youngor Textile Complex in Ningbo on the Yangtze River Delta and the Well Dyeing Factory in the Pearl Rive

Technology is about pushing forward. Be it computer technology, food technology, or textile technology, the purpose is to accomplish something that was once impossible. Such is the case with the recent introduction of a new wool dyeing technology that allows–for the first time–wool to be dyed with multiple colors and designs. New Zealand’s AgResearch developed the technology, and fellow New Zealander BGI Developments will commercialize the process.

Young designers—at the risk of insulting you, it amazes me how many of you don’t have the first clue about buying fabrics. I mean, your fabrics are the cornerstone of your designs and making sure you can get your hands on them for production before you make your samples, is essential. Why did you create that beautiful dress with a yard of novelty fabric that you picked up at the flea market last summer? Do you think that the 100 yards you need for production will just apparate magically? Praying
