"We have something representing each era for the last 10 decades," Mortell said. Many guests also dressed in vintage clothes.

A fashion show of Goodwill

If you take a good idea and match it up with good and capable and committed people, then you’ve got something that has lasting power,” said Ned Helms, grandson of Goodwill founder the Rev. Edgar J. Helms of Boston, who began the organization back in 1902. “He took it and ran with it, and that was the seed of Goodwill International today.”

Helms, his wife, Sally, and Anna Eleanor Roosevelt, Goodwill of Northern New England’s president and CEO, stood together surveying the crowd of over 300 at the

Hangovers can take you to bleak places and on a recent weekend I was transported to a scene akin to one of those hoarder TV shows from a channel on the fringes of digital television: I was surrounded by 10 black bin bags filled to the brim with my clothes. These weren't just any clothes, these were high street clothes.

After years of high street hoarding, I decided to edit my wardrobe, or let's be honest my floordrobe, which covered my entire bedroom floor. Fact fans: my room is the size of a ten

Wonderland fave Craig Green’s design credentials – notably, his deft marriage of the functional with the conceptual – have steadily accrued critical acclaim. The Symphony Fashion Show Patrons spent a recent evening with Gov. Bill Haslam and First Lady Crissy Haslam at the Tennessee Residence. It was a splendid evening that began with cocktails and passed appetizers on the veranda.

Some jobs you could never do if you didn't truly love them, and ballet costumier has got to be near the top of that list.

James Kelly has spent more than 20 years bringing designers' visions to the stage, and now he's at work on the Royal New Zealand Ballet's production of The Wizard of Oz.

His job is to bring sketches to life, to translate an idea into a garment, and to make it work on a practical level.

Fundraiser turns trash into fashion

Dad jeans turned into a skirt, and a business suit and old newspapers transformed into ball gowns. With pieces made of 90 percent recycled materials or trash, every outfit was different.

This year’s Trashion Refashion Show, which took place Sunday at the Buskirk-Chumley Theater, was the primary annual fundraiser for the Center for Sustainable Living. Bloomington designers submitted looks created with long-abandoned garments or found garbage.

Fashion notes: Is fishnet really back in vogue?
(Photo:marieaustralia)

The topic of my latest fashion rant is the questionable fishnet fabric. But, rather than slamming it wholeheartedly, I’ll censor myself and look at how the notoriously exposed material has inspired some really cool style trends of late.

Perhaps I’m the only one who is instinctively baffled by the fact that webbed fishnet-like fabrics are currently being given the thumbs up in fashion. There was a time when the textile was most symbolic of theatrical shows. But, trends often

Think graffiti, but with yarn instead of spray cans.

The art of yarnbombing started in 2005 when Texan clothes shop owner Magda Sayeg found a creative way of using up half-finished jumpers and scarfs - by putting them on door handles.

The craze took off, with artists plastering street signs and even buses with colourful strands of wool made by knitting or crocheting, reported The Telegraph.

Freelance graphic designer and illustrator Kelly Lim, 25, is one such yarnbombing enthusiast here.

After years of striving towards creating a picture perfect show, fashion designers appear to be challenging norms now. At the just concluded Lakme Fashion Week in the city, a few designers challenged the concepts of a model and a showstopper by making some unconventional choices on the ramp.

Hyderabad-based designer Gaurang Shah made headlines when he got supermodel Carol Gracias to walk the ramp, cradling a baby bump. He was highly applauded for the bold step but he wasn’t anticipating such an o

Get set, glow!

It’s new-age fashion, not fantasy. When Berlin-based ElektroCouture and Friends lit up the runway at the Lakme Fashion Week with their light-emitting jackets, colour-changing clothes and glowing accessories, it was apparent that technology-driven futuristic fashion was moving rapidly from far-fetched concepts to commercially viable style statements.

In Mumbai for the show, Lisa Lang, founder, ElektroCouture, spoke about pushing the boundaries of smart textiles and creating tech-driven garments th

The see-now-buy-now fashion week model is still the fashion industry's most debated topic. Karl Lagerfeld hates it. Christopher Bailey loves it. It's all a bit confusing, non?

Between designers producing special capsules available to buy immediately after their runway debut, and the more dramatic move to present the collection that's due to drop in-store (and online) - instead of showing the line-up that ordinarily wouldn't be ready to purchase for another six m
