Australian Prodigy: Therese Rawsthorne

8842900268?profile=originalThat's So New YorkThe French have their "je ne sais quoi", but the Australians have their laid back culture. Perhaps it's the proximity to beautiful beaches or perhaps it's the fact that sunshine and good times are taken for granted there. Whatever it is, occasionally there comes an Australian designer who is able to replicate that feeling of lazy days with friends in a sophisticated collection. Therese Rawsthorne has always been known for her easy lines and breezy drapes. Her Spring/Summer 2

Some lady had to help me scoop up my jaw because it was on the floor after I saw the label on the black skirt….Celine… believe me it isn’t everyday that I run across this luxurious French brand inside a thrift store…  Just like the top made by Walking Art from Australia, you don’t find that brand everyday, every week or month for that matter.  Let me start with the top by Walking Art which is a company from Australia that utilizes famous artist prints and applies them to women’s clothing.    Th

Rebecca Taylor is not just a lifeSTYLE… but a state of mind.  Urban, feminine, bold, kittenish, modern, chic, sexy and ever so cool Rebecca Taylor is probably the most famous New Zealand fashion designer that is based in New York City.  Her creativity and energy pours into her collections with inspirational references ranging from vintage (LOVE) mod books from the 60′s & 70′s to the words of music, art and entertainment.  Speaking of vintage and a blast from the past I’ve just watched Downton Ab

Cynthia Rowley sexy dress….

It isn’t everyday I run across Cynthia Rowley while out thrifting but today was a new day…  Big fan of Cynthia Rowley especially her Fall 2011 collection… Cynthia Rowley was 7 when she constructed her first dress and so far this woman got into her car and tore off her rear view mirrow because this lady isn’t looking back!  She is a true supportor of the arts so much that she has worked with artist like Ryan McNamara,  Olaf Breuning, Nice Cave and Will Cotton, who I absolutely LOVE, on various v

That's So New York - Nicolas Ghesquière has taken Balenciaga to the next level by pushing the boundaries and representing shapes and colors in a whole different way. As a part of it all, Balenciaga bags have been a necessity (well, actually a weakness) for city girls, providing them ease, sophistication and great quality. The most splendorous thing about this season’s must, the Balenciaga Weekender Bag, is that it gives you that celebrity vibe most women seek for in their ordinary lives. Even t

Shall We Dance?

8842904682?profile=originalThat's So New YorkWith the recent popularity of the psychotic ballerina flick 'Black Swan', the question had to be asked: Was it the growing industry of fashion design who caught on to the ballerina trend long before we managed to or were the designers of 2011 simply attempting to inject the fun and feminine aspect into their spring collections? The ballerina style is certainly snatching its spotlight in fashion on both the high-street and catwalk this season. Ballet inspired outfits have bee

3.1 Phillip Lim: Fall/Winter 2011

8842897289?profile=originalThat's So New York - Since 2003, when Phillip Lim first launched his line, he has been amongst the most talented, inspiring designers and his Fall 2011 collection proved once again that he knows what women want to wear and he never fails to deliver. While many designers this season are channeling the ’90s or the ’70s, Lim presented a collection that was less referential and more modern, reflecting the style of a chic woman in the 21st century.

Always looking for wearable yet fashionable clothing

Small Bag, Big Statement

8842905498?profile=originalThat's So New YorkThis is officially the season of the small bag; therefore, downsizing is required from all the giant totes and carry-alls we’ve been lugging around. I for one welcome this change because most of the time my bags were half empty anyways so what was the point? Oh right, of course fashion. As trends come and go, small bags have been missing on the style radar for some time but at last, here they are and what a selection! From clutches in chic croco and bold leathers to cute, mi

Join The Tribe

8842905673?profile=originalThat's So New YorkThe word Aztec has been thrown around the catwalk massive amounts this past season, used when describing various spring/summer as-well as fall/winter collections, it is a term which derives from Mexico and was used to describe certain ethnic groups, even as early as the 14th century. Navajo is the name taken by the largest native American tribe in north America. Both Aztec and navajo groups maintain, rather stereotypical native Indian attire, using an abundance of feathers,

8842906265?profile=originalThat's So New YorkThe Chloé woman can be anticipated as willowy and poised, and Hannah MacGibbon’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection did nothing to defer from this illusion. The elegant demeanor portrayed by the models was reiterated with the toffee and caramel color palette tinged with burnt oranges and striking emeralds, which paired with the sleek up-dos, portrayed a modern gracefulness. A review comments ‘suppleness can be found in the long tulle or chiffon skirts, sometimes worn over shorts

That's So New York‘Believe in me and I’ll take you to the wonderland of amazing looks’ that seems to be the hidden message in Jil Sander’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Raf Simons managed to create a true color fest, wrapping model’s bodies in effortless sophistication. Neat and basic shapes are key words in a sentence written with striking tones, throughout a depiction about bracing minimalistic dreams. Long hemmed skirts and dresses, simple lines, and striped and color blocking silhouettes

Poncho: Culture Meets Catwalk

8842905470?profile=originalThat's So New YorkCultural trends have been a hit this season both on the catwalk and high-street among some of our favourite designers; Although the tribal trend has been a vintage favourite this season, some of us need something a little more modern, something for those art-types who are looking to inspire the future of fashion, rather than dwell of the trends which the majority of our grandparents would have set and considered extremely popular, 40 years ago. Yes, of-course I am a fan of t

Lindsey Thornburg

8842905268?profile=originalThat's So New YorkLindsey Thornburg is a young talented American designer. Among multiple elements which contributed greatly towards her fame, one item stood out from the crowd, that of which included her vast range of cloaks, some of which range from basic, sober colors, to decidedly eccentric multicolor patterns and prints. In her latest Spring/Summer 2011collection, Thornburg relies on the advertising campaign shot by talented photographer Olivia Malone who, in my opinion, manages to pull

2 out of 3 items from this posting are brand new don’t you just love that?  Every time I find a brand new item in a thrift store I get a little verklempt.  I have a been a serial thrifter for over 28 years now and I’ve seen some amazing things inside thrift stores along my journey and I’ve got to say each time I see a designer piece with tags dangling in the wind I choke up…  It’s like finding the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow, I always like to think it’s my reward for all my hard work.

Yet, the creative process seems to have been influenced somehow by Duckie’s style, that peculiarly funny character from the classic movie 'Pretty in Pink'Up to the ankle slim pants, a tie, a hat and a shirt, and you are set to be taken back to the wonderful and magnificent eighties.
