I just spent a week in Texas, shopping and spending time with my mom-dad and artist brother and more shopping!  You can say all you want about Texas but the one thing you can’t say is that they don’t like to  shop.  I think Texans were born with am American Express in their hands and they all seem to know where Neiman Marcus is….  I took an entire week off and just shopped and hung out with family.  I’m so lucky I have such love and support. While I was home my dad took an old pair of my mom’s s

Ok wouldn’t you have grabbed this gray dress from Barney’s New York that was made in Italy from New Zealand wool??  Why yes you would have in a New York second and I would have been so damn proud!  New Zealand wool is luxury fiber, it’s where all the best wool comes from and it have everything to do with their climate and region of the world.  So when I saw that this gray dress was from Barney’s and made in Italy from New Zealand wool, well hell it was a no-brainer.  I love the simple cut and li

Don’t you love the photo of the 2 pianos standing side by side in a thrift store?  OMG that’s priceless to me.  2 pianos inside a second hand store waiting for a player to come by and actually tap those keys, got to LOVE it.  Look at the photo of the all those books on the floor and on the book cases, so many damn books and most books inside a thrift store are like $.50 or $.75 a book.  Now that’s the biggest bargain of the century people.  Check out all the artwork framed and ready for a new ho

I think my mannequin needs a name.  I’m very fond of the name Lupe or Endora but can’t decide.  The reason I think my mannequin needs a name is because when you put such fabulous clothes on her, like this green Celine top and this blue gray Calvin Klein Collection skirt, the mannequin just needs to be identified with having such great taste…  So if I named her Lupe I would say “Lupe thinks she’s worthy of being on the Best Dressed List because she’s wearing Celine & Calvin Klein Collection and I

Flight of the Butterflies

Last night Mitch and I, along with our good friends Rhett & Nena, went to see Flight of the Butterflies an IMAX movie.  The movie was about the monarch butterfly and their journey. The monarch butterfly weighs less than a penny and it makes one of the longest migrations on Earth across a continent, with pinpoint navigational accuracy, to a secluded place it has never been.  Man has become somewhat of an obstacle for the butterflies with the deadly toxic chemicals sprayed on vegetables & plants a

This Rebecca Taylor silk with spandex LBD has a helluva a lot of style doesn’t it?  The back of this little black dress is sexy and hugs the entire body making you look like a Drop Dead Diva…. I found this black velvet foldover purse by Garay that looks amazing with theRebecca Taylor dress.  Garay was popular and big back in the 50′s & 60′s and when you see all the different designs Arnold Garay did you will want every damn one of them.  Garay makes a great addition to anyone’s vintage collectio

Finding this Adele Simpson LBD makes me no longer a virgin.  I’ve waited patiently for this label and with good reason, it’s very collectible not to mention chic.  I am a huge fan of the website Shrimpton Couture, from Toronto Canada, and they just adore Adele Simpson.  Adele Simpson died in 1991 at the age of 91 and in the 70′s & 80′s this label was a power house.  She dressed several of the First Ladies from Lady Bird Johnson to Pat Nixon to Barbara Bush.  Her simple fashion philosophy won her

Every woman needs a black leather skirt in her closet no matter how old she is.  About a year ago I had this 70+ year old lady from Eastern Europe (Latvia) shop at my boutiqueDoubletake Recycled Luxury and walked out with a black leather mini.  She was 70+ years old and bought herself a black leather mini and I LOVEEEED that.  Age is strictly a number not a mindset!  So yes every woman needs a black leather skirt and why shouldn’t it be Moschino?  I about peed in my pants when I saw the label an

It is the little perks in life that make me happy and by little I mean finding a Burberry golf / polo shirt for ME.  I love this color and I love that it’s my size so when I found this I said thank you DOG (god spelled backwards)…. Who doesn’t love finding Burberry inside a thrift store?  I can’t think of a single person on this lonely planet.  Burberry is an iconic British fashion label and one that has been around for well over 100 years and with Christopher Bailey as the creative director, it

I just have so much I want to talk about that who knows exactly how many parts to this topic there will be…. You know I’m really trying to just get these images inside  your head so you know what second hand shops look like.  You can only imagine my amazement when I went to a thrift store and saw this white Russel Wright complete set of dishes, cups, saucers, coffee pot with sugar & creamer, tea pitcher etc for sale.  Lets just say that since Russel Wright is inside the collection of MoMA it wou

Sometimes I really can’t believe my luck.  Every time I find Chloe, which isn’t often enough, I rejoice in the most modest way (I keep thrifting)…. Yes finding Chloe is so rewarding, finding vintage Chloe is ecstasy.  This isn’t vintage but it Shirley will do.  Chloewas founded in 1952 by Gaby Aghion, an Egyptian-born Parisienne with a dark beauty and a bohemian spirit.  Rejecting the stiff formality of the 50′s fashion, she creates soft, body conscious clothes from fine fabrics and called them

You know I LOVE and adore Jil Sander what is there not to LOVE about this label but finding Matthew Williamson blew me out of the water.  I’ve never found this label until now, so technically I’m no longer a virgin when it comes to this label.  I’ve read and seem so much about Matthew Williamson over the years and always hoped I would find something while thrifting, well I guess the GODS wanted to throw me a bone.  Matthew Williamson was born in Manchester England and graduated from Central Sain

I was sitting inside my car waiting for the thrift store to open and had some time to kill.  Now having time to kill for me can either be a good thing or a very bad thing but rest assured it’s all good.  I started to think about how I shop for items on my blog daily but never really show images of what’s really inside thrift stores.  So when the thrift store opened and I was walking towards the door I just thought to myself take some photos Daniel and do a different blog post.  I know for most p

I almost came unglued when I saw the Ungaro Solo Donna made in Italy.  I haven’t found Ungaro Solo Donna until now so it’s fun to chit chat about.  The color, I mean this shade of pink is right on and the best thing is that there were no stains, no tears, no smells no nothing just in excellent condition.  It is as well preserved as Joan Rivers is…  Solo Donna is one of three Ungaro’s women’s collections; the others are Emanuel Ungaro Parallele, the signature line, and Emanuel, a bridge collectio

If this isn’t one simple chic outfit then I don’t know what I’m doing…. but since I know what I’m doing it’s safe to say this ensemble is super chic.  I love anything that is a wrap, but I love it a little bit more when it’s from Dolce & Gabbana.  I almost crapped in my pants when I saw this label and I’m not lying.  If you’re going to have a wrap top in your wardrobe I’m thinking it should be by D&G.  Dolce & Gabbana are one of  Italy’s premium exports and with loyal fans like the ones they hav

I swear I gathered up all 3 pieces in under 30 seconds at my local thrift store.  They were all side by side, making my life easy, and just waiting for someone to salvage them.  I love the Kay Unger silk dress, just love it.  When Kay Unger does something this marvelous it should get the full shout out.  Then I found the Michael Kors dress made in Italy which is really really good.  I love finding Michael Kors items that were made in Italy because the quality is 100 times better and if you could

Happy Earth Day !!!!!!   Yes this is indeed one of my favorite holidays right behind Halloween!  I started The Thrifters blog back in 2009 and every single blog post had something to do with changing our shopping habits, case in point, thrifting.  When we look for our clothing, furniture, tableware, silver ware, drink ware, gardening tools, out door patio furniture etc etc in thrift stores, consignment stores, at yard sales & estate sale and lets not forget flea markets we are SHOPPING GREEN.  M

My intent for this posting was to deliberately go into a thrift store and pull together an entire black ensemble.  Considering this ensemble consist of Cacharel & Cynthia Rowley, and not just any Cynthia Rowley but a new Cynthia Rowley still with tags, it’s a black outfit that would even make Johnny Cash proud.  I’m a huge fan of long pleated skirts and this Cynthia Rowley one wins the award for Best in SHOW hands down.  Long skirts to me go from daytime to evening instantly and effortlessly, it
