Fashion evolution is no more an annual occurrence anymore, but things are transforming around with a blink of an eye. With people going for an eco-friendly option in textile over synthetic ones, great innovations are coming up to rescue our dying earth. Several materials we regard as waste can actually be utilized to produce <strong><a href="https://dharan.co.in/" target="_blank">Sustainable Fashion</a></strong> textiles. Listed below are some of the best durable fibers to opt for if you want to go for better and safer fashion options.</p><p></p><p><a href="{{#staticFileLink}}8844117898,original{{/staticFileLink}}" target="_blank"><img src="{{#staticFileLink}}8844117898,original{{/staticFileLink}}" class="align-center" alt="8844117898?profile=original" /></a></p><p></p><p><strong>Coffee ground fibers</strong></p><p><br /> A foundation of the fashion industry’s eco-friendly future, coffee ground fibers are here to make a change. Discarded by most of the coffee drinkers as waste, these can actually be converted into sustainable fibers. Clothes made from coffee ground fibers are suitable for making sportswear. It absorbs sweat and keeps the body cool. These fibers are naturally anti-bacterial and mold resistant. So, think twice before you throw away that coffee waste; t-shirt you are wearing might now contain a cup full of coffee waste.</p><p><strong>Banana Fibers</strong></p><p><br /> Confirmed as the world’s strongest fiber, it is made from the pseudostem of the banana tree. It can also be blended with other fibers to create a successfully blended fiber. To add further, banana fibers have low density, appropriate stiffness, and mechanical properties. These fibers can also be blended with jute fibers for distinct productions. Cushion covers made from banana fibers are famous all over the world.</p><p>Organic Cotton Fiber</p><p><br /> Cotton is widely used in footwear and apparel for men, women, and children alike. Where 100 percent cotton is commonly preferred by masses, cotton blended with several other textiles is also fancied. It is said that no chemicals are required during the harvesting of organic cotton. It uses 80 percent less water and 5 percent less energy. It is also good for the environment as it causes minimum damage to the air and soil.</p><p><strong>Modal Fiber</strong></p><p><br /> Made out of pure wooden chips from the beech tree, it is a pulp-based cellulose fiber. These have a high breaking strength and can be regenerated easily, along with acting as second-generation viscose rayon fibers. These are good absorbents, quickly get immersed in water, and feel waterless when touched. Modal fibers are largely preferred because they occupy less land and ten and twenty percent less water as compared to other fibers.</p><p><strong>Pineapple Fiber</strong></p><p><br /> Pineapple fibers are generally made from the plants’ leaves. The fibers are manually detached from the leaves using coconut husks, washed and hung to dry. When knotted and prepared, these are separated into two categories. One goes into the making of rugs, and the other is chosen for the weaving of fine clothes. Clothes that are woven from the pineapple fibers are suitable for subtropical fiber as the material is light, and air can be passed easily.</p><p>If you are facing trouble getting these eco-friendly fibers, check out <strong><a href="https://dharan.co.in/" target="_blank">Dharan</a></strong> to purchase the most suitable clothes made of sustainable fabrics.</p></div>What Is Eco-Fashion And How To Be Responsibly Fashionablehttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/what-is-eco-fashion-and-how-to-be-responsibly-fashionable2019-11-26T09:18:09.000Z2019-11-26T09:18:09.000ZSwati Sharmahttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/SwatiSharma808<div><p>We live in an era of climate change, and we are clearly the reason behind it. The amount of damage we humans have done to this planet cannot be undone. However, recent generations are coming up with revolutionary ideas to make the environmental condition a little better. Eco-fashion is a similar idea and is also known as sustainable fashion. It is not just a term but a beautiful movement that aims at redefining the word fashion so as to bring it on even terms with environmental well being.</p><p>Eco-fashion encompasses not just the production of responsibly fashionable goods. It means to encourage local producers to reduce waste while production, to increase the life of these products, and to minimize the danger to the environment during the production and consumption of the product. Below are some great tips one can use to join the eco-friendly fashion movement.</p><p></p><p><a href="{{#staticFileLink}}8844104087,original{{/staticFileLink}}" target="_blank"><img src="{{#staticFileLink}}8844104087,original{{/staticFileLink}}" class="align-center" alt="8844104087?profile=original" /></a></p><p></p><h2 class="western"><a></a>Say No To Plastic</h2><p>This is the simplest yet the most effective way to support the actual cause of reducing pollution. But this isn’t something that can continue when we consider the future of the planet and people. Sustainable clothing is garments that can be made consistently with less or no adverse impacts on both the environment and the labour involved. There are different ways that brands can make their trade sustainable, and a few are being standard practice for prominent designers. Here’s a look at the different sustainable options that brands are implementing into their overall process.</p><p> </p><p>Recycling</p><p>It’s not something everyone is aware of, but it isn’t just fabrics that can be recycled to create new clothing. Horizon Athletic is a gym brand that uses Econyl, a material that is produced by recycling plastic. The brand isn’t using just any plastic either, it’s plastic found in the ocean and has been damaging the sea gradually, and <a href="https://www.horizonathletic.com/">Horizon Athletic</a> is doing their part to stop this issue from reoccurring. The more the products that are purchased from the brand, the more plastic will be taken out of the ocean, which is how this brand is sustainable. </p><p> </p><p>Good Practice</p><p>The majority of fashion labels outsource their manufacturing to other countries where the cost of materials and staff is much cheaper, which from a business perspective, makes sense. Sadly, some brands can be oblivious to the staff being underpaid, and their methods would be either illegal or frowned upon in the USA and UK. But some brand like Everlane prioritise the staff and make their methods of practice enjoyable for all everyone. The clothing is of high quality and does cost slightly more, but you can but their garment knowing that everyone in the process has been treated fairly. The brand offers their staff a safe working environment, reasonable working hours and fair wages. Everything in their operation has, and they’re providing a sustainable future for their workforce.</p><p> </p><p>Protecting the Environment</p><p>When textiles and materials are sources, it can have some real negative impact on the environment which a lot of brands neglect. Patagonia uses their profits to rebuild affects areas and restore them to their original state. Patagonia is an outdoor living brand which focuses on forests, rivers, mountain range and animals. Forests that are torn down for resources needs to be replaced, and brands like <a href="http://csrcentral.com/patagonia-the-clothing-company-with-a-revolutionary-approach-to-csr-sustainability/" target="_blank">Patagonia</a> are making our need for these resources sustainable.</p><p> </p><p>Whether it’s a <a href="https://www.horizonathletic.com/">womens activewear</a> brand or a luxury designer label, any manufacturer can change their process to help the environment. So, it’s worth looking into the brand further and seeing what their ethos is and how they want to help the world.</p></div>shows off site in an eco paradise spring 2018 showcasing the collection in thehttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/shows-off-site-in-an-eco-paradise-spring-2018-showcasing-the2017-09-14T20:52:02.000Z2017-09-14T20:52:02.000ZFashionRooftophttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/FashionRooftop<div><p><a href="http://fashionrooftop.com/nk2018.htm" target="_blank"><img width="750" src="{{#staticFileLink}}8843781465,original{{/staticFileLink}}" class="align-full" alt="8843781465?profile=original" /></a></p><div><div><div class="_1mf _1mj"><span><span>Nicholas K takes flight and shows off site in an eco paradise spring 2018 showcasing the collection in the place that inspired them: Azulik --> See full collection here: <a href="http://fashionrooftop.com/nk2018.htm">http://fashionrooftop.com/nk2018.htm</a></span></span> <span class="_5zk7"><span><span>#nyfw</span></span></span> <span class="_5zk7"><span><span>#fashion</span></span></span></div></div></div></div>New on our Chic List: Fuscrahttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/new-on-our-chic-list-fuscra2016-03-13T21:50:39.000Z2016-03-13T21:50:39.000ZFashionRooftophttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/FashionRooftop<div><p><a target="_blank" href="http://www.FashionRooftop.com/bags.htm"><img width="750" class="align-full" src="{{#staticFileLink}}8843584685,original{{/staticFileLink}}" alt="8843584685?profile=original" /></a><a href="http://fashionrooftop.com/bags.htm">http://fashionrooftop.com/bags.htm</a></p></div>DIY: Tips to Design Eco- friendly Jewelryhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/diy-tips-to-design-eco-friendly-jewelry2015-12-30T08:58:43.000Z2015-12-30T08:58:43.000ZLovisa Alvinhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/LovisaAlvin<div><p><span class="font-size-4">With the environment crisis reaching a whole new level of alarming, many people have been forced to reconsider their lifestyle choices and the ways they contribute to so much environmental wastage. Of course, no one wants to live under constant threat of a disaster. </span></p><p><span class="font-size-4"><a href="http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0313/9629/products/Joy_Ella_Gemstone_Earrings_Lila_Clare_Jewelry_78f5aeda-edc5-4b7c-8ed5-6a5a19069772_1024x1024.jpg?v=1415819314" target="_blank"><img src="http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0313/9629/products/Joy_Ella_Gemstone_Earrings_Lila_Clare_Jewelry_78f5aeda-edc5-4b7c-8ed5-6a5a19069772_1024x1024.jpg?v=1415819314" class="align-full" alt="Joy_Ella_Gemstone_Earrings_Lila_Clare_Jewelry_78f5aeda-edc5-4b7c-8ed5-6a5a19069772_1024x1024.jpg?v=1415819314" /></a></span></p><p><span class="font-size-4">Thus, it is only right that we start to reclaim our lives by making changes in our everyday routines. The smallest and most insignificant of things can contribute to this. One need not take drastic measures; one can take small steps towards reducing wastage. These steps can add up to have a considerable impact on the toxicity that surrounds us on a daily basis.</span></p><p></p><p></p><p><em><span class="font-size-4">In this scenario, what does one do if one is a consumer at heart and desires ‘things’ like jewelry?</span></em></p><p></p><p><strong><span class="font-size-4">It’s quite simple.</span></strong></p><p></p><p><span class="font-size-4">There is no need to completely abandon one’s desires: not only is that next to impossible but also ill- advised if done in a hurry. Instead, one can find ways to conflate these wishes with eco- friendly ideas. This way, one need not feel guilty about indulging oneself.</span></p><p></p><p></p><p><span class="font-size-4">This trend of making eco- friendly jewelry at home, instead of buying regular silver, gold or <a href="http://lilaclare.com/collections/joy" target="_blank">compact silver sterling handmade jewelry</a> is gaining lots of popularity. It reduces wastage and is very light on the pocket. Moreover, it takes minimal effort and acts as a quirky and thoughtful style statement.</span></p><p></p><p></p><p><em><span class="font-size-5">Let us look at some ways in which one can make eco- friendly jewelry at home:</span></em></p><p><em><span class="font-size-5"><a href="http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0313/9629/products/Mia_Small_Calla_Lily_with_Leaf_Earrings_1024x1024.jpg?v=1422401892" target="_blank"><img src="http://cdn.shopify.com/s/files/1/0313/9629/products/Mia_Small_Calla_Lily_with_Leaf_Earrings_1024x1024.jpg?v=1422401892" class="align-full" alt="Mia_Small_Calla_Lily_with_Leaf_Earrings_1024x1024.jpg?v=1422401892" /></a></span></em></p><p><span class="font-size-4"><strong>Reuse</strong>: The first step towards crafting your own jewelry is to reuse stuff. It is the best way to ensure that this costs you almost nothing. The beads from your previous necklaces, the hangings from the earrings, scraps from other such things should be kept and creatively put together to make new pieces. For instance, the designs of a broken pair of earrings can be used as pendants or even attached to bracelets. Or, cut your broken necklace short and create bracelets and anklets. This way, you have new jewelry without paying for it.</span></p><p></p><p><span class="font-size-4"><strong>Recycle</strong>: This is the basic tenet of addressing wastage. You can recycle a hundred different things around the house to craft into little pieces of eco- friendly jewelry. For instance, the pop- tops from soda cans can be great bases to create earrings with beads or stones attached to them. Similarly, buttons are a great way to make jewelry, be it bracelets, necklaces, earrings or the likes. You can also paint them or cover them with colorful threads to make them vibrant.</span></p><p></p><p></p><p><span class="font-size-4"><strong>Try Multi- Functionality</strong>: It is always a great idea to extract a lot of functions from the same thing. This way your jewelry is new and serves more than one purpose. For example, you can use bobby pins to create a necklace, simply with thread and different colored pins. It looks great with dresses and also serves the basic purpose of a bobby pin.</span></p><p></p><p><span class="font-size-4"><strong>Go Eccentric</strong>: Making eco- friendly jewelry gives you a huge window to up your quirk factor. For instance, little circuit boards from discarded appliances make for awesome earrings. Similarly, tiny pencils, sharpened to the maximum, can be made into eye- catchy earrings. </span></p></div>What is Eco-Friendly Fashion?https://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/what-is-eco-friendly-fashion2014-11-25T09:00:00.000Z2014-11-25T09:00:00.000ZAriel Bellamyhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/ArielBellamy<div><p>With the apocalyptic warnings against the perils of global warming, greenhouse gases and widespread pollution, it’s high time we all turned to eco-friendly resources, tech solutions and lifestyle in general. In an attempt to help save the planet <a href="http://fashion-history.lovetoknow.com/fashion-history-eras/future-fashion">back in early 2000s</a>, fashion designers joined the calls for environmentally conscious standards and green ideas across industries, including garbs and style – what came out was a whole new trend called sustainable fashion, which has already gotten increasingly popular around the globe. </p><p>So, what exactly <i>is</i> eco-friendly fashion? Scroll down to find out.</p><h3>Sustainable design, or how it all began</h3><p>Essentially, eco-friendly fashion is a part of the larger concept of sustainable design as a trend primarily concerned with environmental and social effects of a specific product or material throughout its lifespan, including production, processing, use and disposal. Manufacturers of sustainable clothing pay attention to a wide variety of factors connected to the creation and use of their pieces, such as the item’s environmental impact, its effect on consumers’ health, as well as the working conditions in production process, <a href="http://timeforchange.org/what-is-a-carbon-footprint-definition">carbon footprint</a>, material longevity and decomposition periods.</p><p><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/lovemaegan//" target="_blank"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4035/4541615128_022fbfb969_o.png" class="align-center" alt="4541615128_022fbfb969_o.png" /></a></p><p>The ultimate goal of green fashion is to minimize the global impact of human life and industries on resources, waters and land, as well as various species and biodiversity. Other connected areas within sustainable design include sustainable agriculture, eco-friendly architecture, green graphic design and environmentally conscious landscape and spatial planning. </p><h3>Green materials in all shapes and shades</h3><p>One of the main concerns of eco-friendly fashion is connected to raw materials used in the production process. Environmentally conscious outfits are mostly made from recycled materials like reprocessed textiles and plastic, plant-based dyes and non-toxic fabrics produced from crops grown without use of pesticides, artificial dyes or harmful chemicals, such as organic cotton, hemp and flax, as well as cloths and trimmings made from plants that are 100% replantable upon harvest and animal-based products like cashmere, hair or wool the gathering of which doesn’t harm the animal itself.</p><p>And though some may nurture concerns about the scope of colors and designs used in eco-fashion, the sustainability tag does not necessarily entail excessive limitations – for example, you can purchase a wide range of fashionable <a href="http://www.braintreeclothing.com.au/">organic clothing in Australia</a>, shop for colorful 100% biodegradable dresses or jeans, get yourself a pair of classy hemp fiber sunshades or even order a customized sweater knit from cruelty-free angora fur. </p><h3>Ecofashionistas: Some famous names</h3><p><b><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/adifans/" target="_blank"><img src="https://farm5.staticflickr.com/4090/5049376667_e64e970e60_b.jpg" class="align-center" alt="5049376667_e64e970e60_b.jpg" /></a></b></p><p>Though still regarded as a relatively young trend, sustainable fashion has already managed to win over some well-known figures in the designer crowd, and a number of celebrities have endorsed cruelty-free clothing, such as Anne Hathaway, Naomie Harris, Helen Hunt. The list of famous eco-fashion designers includes passionate <a href="http://action.peta.org.uk/ea-action/action?ea.client.id=5&ea.campaign.id=12472">animal rights campaigner Stella McCartney</a>, eco-designer Emilia Wickstead of New Zealand, well-known Italian shoe manufacturer Giuseppe Zanotti, sustainable fashion pioneer Anne Salvatore Epstein, visionary couture Linda Loudermilk, Safia Minney and her brand People Tree, Indian-born American designer Naeem, Ali Hewson’s brand Edun, and believe it or not, even the world-popular H&M brand joined the eco-awareness bandwagon with <a href="http://www.fashiongonerogue.com/hm-conscious-spring-2014-collection/">their latest Conscious Exclusive collection</a>.</p><p><a href="https://www.flickr.com/photos/cosmogone/" target="_blank"><img src="https://farm1.staticflickr.com/122/292240069_21ce932e12_b.jpg" class="align-center" alt="292240069_21ce932e12_b.jpg" /></a></p><p>From east to west, environmentally friendly fashion is spreading like wildfire, and rightfully so – with natural resources down and running out, once arable land turning into landfills and ever-growing pollution threatening to wipe out wildlife habitats and exterminate entire species, it really is high time we showed some tender, love and care for our planet. It’s not enough to think green; we need to go green ASAP and act with some responsibility to our environment – even if it means shopping organic attire instead of faux fur and synthetic textiles. </p><p></p></div>Namiko Bamboo Womenswearhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/namiko-bamboo-womenswear2014-07-31T17:10:56.000Z2014-07-31T17:10:56.000ZFashionRooftophttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/FashionRooftop<div><p><a target="_blank" href="http://www.fashionrooftop.com/eco.htm"><img width="750" class="align-full" src="{{#staticFileLink}}8843347682,original{{/staticFileLink}}" alt="8843347682?profile=original" /></a>Contemporary yet elegant designs made from comfortable eco friendly fabric. Actually I’m not sure how he showed this dress when he created it back in the day… Did he show it as a “bat cape” where the panels are in the back of the dress or did he show this piece with the panels in front of the dress? Either way you slice this, it’s gorgeous beyond words. I’m actually loving showing it with the “bat cape” in back of the dress…. It really doesn’t matter because what does matter is the fact that when Stephen Burrows entered the NYC fashion scene in the late 60′s nobody was able to predict his metoric rise as one of America’s most celebrated creative forces. The first African-American designer to attain international stature. Burrows’s career was distinguished by a succession of “firsts” – he was the first American designer given a free standing boutique called Stephen Burrows’ World at Henri Bendel. He was among the 5 America designers (Anne Klein, Bill Blass, Oscar de la Renta & Halston) that got invited to show in Paris in 1973 at the legendary “Battle of Versailles.” This was the first time that the American designers were pitted against the French and the Americans got the long standing ovation… Burrows is considered one of America’s finest fashion designers by just about everyone under the sun. He has won several COTY Awards and I want to find every piece of vintage Burrows out there on the planet…. I read this article in the green section of the Huffington Post and my jaw dropped because, these brilliant and talented artists hit it on the head…. Nailed it. I LOVE this quote from the website: “Human beings, as all life on Earth, came from the stars and landed through the ocean,” the contest solicitation read. ”Ocean is our very first foster mother, much more than the land where we now cut trees and plant transgenic corn. But, as we maltreat land, we have been maltreating our spring of life and now oceans are quite ill because of our activities: less fish but more plastic, less pure water but more oil, less coral but more garbage. That’s why today, not tomorrow, we must do our best to save oceans of ourselves if we still want to have a future on this planet.” That quote and these beautiful cartoons sums up the urgency to become better stewards of this beautiful planet we all call home… </span></strong></p><div id="gallery-1" class="gallery galleryid-19162 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail"><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/06/09/climate-change-political-cartoons-put-everything-in-perspective/slide_352590_3821132_free/" title="slide_352590_3821132_free"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/slide_352590_3821132_free-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="slide_352590_3821132_free" title="slide_352590_3821132_free" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/06/09/climate-change-political-cartoons-put-everything-in-perspective/slide_352590_3821128_free/" title="slide_352590_3821128_free"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/slide_352590_3821128_free-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="slide_352590_3821128_free" title="slide_352590_3821128_free" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/06/09/climate-change-political-cartoons-put-everything-in-perspective/slide_352590_3821133_free/" title="slide_352590_3821133_free"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/slide_352590_3821133_free-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="slide_352590_3821133_free" title="slide_352590_3821133_free" /></a></dt></dl><br /><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/06/09/climate-change-political-cartoons-put-everything-in-perspective/slide_352590_3821131_free/" title="slide_352590_3821131_free"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/slide_352590_3821131_free-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="slide_352590_3821131_free" title="slide_352590_3821131_free" /></a></dt></dl></div><div class="addtoany_share_save_container addtoany_content_bottom"><div class="a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 addtoany_list a2a_target"><a class="a2a_dd addtoany_share_save" href="http://www.addtoany.com/share_save#url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thethrifters.net%2F2014%2F06%2F09%2Fclimate-change-political-cartoons-put-everything-in-perspective%2F&title=Climate%20change%20political%20cartoons%20put%20everything%20in%20perspective%E2%80%A6.&description=Last%20month%2C%20the%20Niels%20Bugge%20Cartoon%20Award%20asked%20illustrators%20and%20cartoonists%20from%20around%20the%20world%20to%20submit%20drawings%20based%20on%20a%20basis%20theme%3A%20climate."><img src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/plugins/add-to-any/share_save_256_24.png" width="256" height="24" alt="Share" /></a></div></div></div>Christian Dior vintage gown that reminds me of Karen Carpenter …https://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/christian-dior-vintage-gown-that-reminds-me-of-karen-carpenter2014-06-19T11:05:10.000Z2014-06-19T11:05:10.000ZDaniel Troppyhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/DanielTroppy<div><p><strong><span>This Dior vintage gown looks like something Karen Carpenter would have worn. His designs marked decades: creations such as the coat dress and the shirt dress continue to be a staple in women’s wardrobe today. He passed away in 1989. The founder of this brilliant idea was jeweler John Hardy, when he sold his company this is what he did next back in 2006 and the school opened in 2008. This is a complete school that focuses on our planet and how we can all be good stewards …. People like Dr. Jane Goodall and Al Gore come and talk to the students there… This is a school I would have loved to have gone to when I was a child sadly there wasn’t anything like this around at the time. Please watch the video and enjoy… Raising children that are passionate about the environment will go out into the world and do good things as adults, so thank you John Hardy…..<strong><em><span><a href="http://www.cbsnews.com/videos/the-bamboo-homes-of-bali/"><span> WATCH VIDEO HERE…</span></a></span></em></strong></span></p><div id="gallery-1" class="gallery galleryid-19103 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail"><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/05/20/the-green-school-in-bali-indonesia-is-fantastic/screen-shot-2014-05-20-at-6-58-53-am/" title="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.58.53 AM"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Screen-Shot-2014-05-20-at-6.58.53-AM-150x150.png" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.58.53 AM" title="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.58.53 AM" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/05/20/the-green-school-in-bali-indonesia-is-fantastic/screen-shot-2014-05-20-at-6-59-01-am/" title="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.59.01 AM"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Screen-Shot-2014-05-20-at-6.59.01-AM-150x150.png" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.59.01 AM" title="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.59.01 AM" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/05/20/the-green-school-in-bali-indonesia-is-fantastic/screen-shot-2014-05-20-at-6-59-30-am/" title="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.59.30 AM"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/05/Screen-Shot-2014-05-20-at-6.59.30-AM-150x150.png" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.59.30 AM" title="Screen Shot 2014-05-20 at 6.59.30 AM" /></a></dt></dl><br /><br /></div><div class="addtoany_share_save_container addtoany_content_bottom"><div class="a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_target addtoany_list"><a class="a2a_dd addtoany_share_save" href="http://www.addtoany.com/share_save#url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thethrifters.net%2F2014%2F05%2F20%2Fthe-green-school-in-bali-indonesia-is-fantastic%2F&title=The%20Green%20School%20in%20Bali%20Indonesia%20is%20fantastic%E2%80%A6&description=The%20Sunday%20Morning%20show%20on%20CBS%20with%20Charles%20Osgood%20this%20past%20Sunday%20featured%20The%20Green%20School%20in%20Bali%20and%20all%20I%20kept%20thinking%20was%20why%20didn%20t%20I%20go%20there%3F%20%C2%A0When%20you%20click%20on%20The%20Green%20School%20s%20website%20I%20loved%20reading%20their%20mission%20statement%20Our%20vision%20is%20of%20a%20natural%2C%20holistic%2C%20student-centered%20learning%20environment%20that%20empowers%20and%20inspires%20our%20students%20to%20be%20creative%2C%20innovative%2C%20green%20leaders..."><img src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/plugins/add-to-any/share_save_256_24.png" width="256" height="24" alt="Share" /></a></div></div></div>The AJC fashion “journalist” Nedra Rhone is beyond laughable….https://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/the-ajc-fashion-journalist-nedra-rhone-is-beyond-laughable2014-04-29T11:26:03.000Z2014-04-29T11:26:03.000ZDaniel Troppyhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/DanielTroppy<div><div id="gallery-1" class="gallery galleryid-19039 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail"><strong><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/29/the-ajc-fashion-journalist-nedra-rhone-is-beyond-laughable/mayor-galambos-book-distribute-ajc/" title="Mayor-Galambos-book-distribute-AJC"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/Mayor-Galambos-book-distribute-AJC-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="Mayor-Galambos-book-distribute-AJC" title="Mayor-Galambos-book-distribute-AJC" /></a></strong><strong><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/29/the-ajc-fashion-journalist-nedra-rhone-is-beyond-laughable/ajc/" title="ajc"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/ajc-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="ajc" title="ajc" /></a></strong><strong><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/29/the-ajc-fashion-journalist-nedra-rhone-is-beyond-laughable/incompetence-navigation/" title="incompetence navigation"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/04/incompetence-navigation-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="incompetence navigation" title="incompetence navigation" /></a></strong><strong><br /><br /></strong></div><p></p><p><strong>Weeks ago they pulled 18 pieces from my store <em><span><a href="http://www.doubletakerecycledluxury.com/"><span>DOUBLETAKE</span></a></span></em> for a fashion show called ”A Divine Tribute to Fashionata” a tribute to Rich’s department store. The day the AJC was photographing the photo shoot to cover the event with models from the past, I styled the models for the photo-opt. I handed the AJC “journalist” Nedra Rhones my card and she said she would be contacting me to interview me for the article. Needless to say the “journalist” Nedra never called and the article came out that neglected to mention that a vast majority of dresses for the show came from<em><span><a href="http://www.doubletakerecycledluxury.com/"><span>DOUBLETAKE</span></a></span></em>. This is a big deal considering <em><span><a href="http://www.doubletakerecycledluxury.com/"><span>DOUBLETAKE</span></a></span></em> is the only consignment store in Atlanta that specializes in luxury vintage. The ONLY store in Atlanta… For them to pull 18 pieces for this show from a single source is unbelievable and I think worthy of recognition of support. If there is one thing I can’t stand it’s just sloppy “journalism”. Yes I’m loud & vocal when it comes to incompetence but I’ve never second guess myself when it comes to calling out people for not doing their “journalistic<strong>” job…. I flipped that’s my reaction to what I did when I first spotted it. I know it’s a pocket handkerchief square but the right girl could use this as a head scarf for sure…. The thrill about shopping green – shopping recycled – shopping second hand is you are shopping smart. Why you ask? Because the world we all live in today manufactures items that have expiration dates on them. You buy items from The Gap, Old Navy, H&M, Zara etc etc you wear them a few times and they start to fall apart. Why do they fall apart you ask?? Because they are crap! It’s that simple really, today we live in such a disposable society, we buy things that consume our natural resources and they fall apart as you wear them. It takes water, energy, oil, labor to produce clothes that all leave behind a carbon footprint and for what? People be smart when you shop and be buy items that have already been manufactured instead of going to a boring mall…. Shop at consignment stores, shop at thrift stores, shop at flea markets, hit your local yard sales & estate sales…. shop second hand!!!!!! I love this Valentino black velvet top with the zipper sleeves… I love seeing zippers on the sleeve… the skirt part of the dress is a luscious wool fabric. It’s very clean, it’s very simple, it’s very Valentino….. Who knows maybe this vintage Valentino dress once belonged to Ann Richards??? It’s possible as I’ve have found out being a professional thrifter for 32 years, anything is possible… As I close up this blog post I’m going to leave you with one of my favorite Ann Richards quotes “After all, Ginger Rogers did everything that Fred Astaire did. She just did it backwards and in high heels.” I’m Daniel Troppy your vintage luxury curator! </span></p><div class="addtoany_share_save_container addtoany_content_bottom"><div class="a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_target addtoany_list"><a class="a2a_dd addtoany_share_save" href="http://www.addtoany.com/share_save#url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thethrifters.net%2F2014%2F04%2F07%2Fvalentino-lbd-would-look-amazing-on-wendy-davis-for-her-inauguration%2F&title=Valentino%20LBD%20would%20look%20amazing%20on%20Wendy%20Davis%20for%20her%20inauguration!!!&description=I%20don%20t%20know%20why%20but%20the%20second%20I%20saw%20this%20gorgeous%20Valentino%20LBD%20I%20thought%20wouldn%20t%20Wendy%20Davis%20look%20amazing%20in%20this%20when%20she%20becomes%20Texas%20next%20governor%20%3F%3F%3F%20%C2%A0I%20swear%20to%20you%20that%20s%20exactly%20what%20I%20thought%2C%20my%20mind%20goes%20in%20several%20different%C2%A0directions%C2%A0and%20it%20s%20hard%20for%20me%20to%20keep%20focus!%20%C2%A0I%20love%20this%20Valentino%20black%20velvet%20top%20with%20the%20zipper%20sleeves%E2%80%A6%20I%20love..."><img src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/plugins/add-to-any/share_save_256_24.png" width="256" height="24" alt="Share" /></a></div></div></div>Mila Schon 70s sexy lounge dress for any occasion….https://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/mila-schon-70s-sexy-lounge-dress-for-any-occasion2014-04-17T11:34:32.000Z2014-04-17T11:34:32.000ZDaniel Troppyhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/DanielTroppy<div><div id="gallery-1" class="gallery galleryid-18604 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail"><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/17/mila-schon-70s-sexy-lounge-dress-for-any-occasion/img_0962-2/" title="IMG_0962"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0962-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0962" title="IMG_0962" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/17/mila-schon-70s-sexy-lounge-dress-for-any-occasion/img_0963-2/" title="IMG_0963"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0963-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0963" title="IMG_0963" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/17/mila-schon-70s-sexy-lounge-dress-for-any-occasion/img_0964/" title="IMG_0964"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0964-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0964" title="IMG_0964" /></a></dt></dl><br /><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/17/mila-schon-70s-sexy-lounge-dress-for-any-occasion/img_0965/" title="IMG_0965"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0965-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0965" title="IMG_0965" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/17/mila-schon-70s-sexy-lounge-dress-for-any-occasion/img_0966/" title="IMG_0966"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0966-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0966" title="IMG_0966" /></a></dt></dl></div><p><span>There are just so many damn cool things about this Mila Schon 70′s dress I really don’t know where to begin. First lets start by the color… will you just check out the shade of pink… It’s the perfect shade of pink! Then lets go by what the size of this dress is ‘Large’… you know it’s vintage when you see sizing like that. It’s a 4-6 but nowhere near a size large. Then I love the lace up on both sides of the dress and finally what I adore about this dress are the 2 high slits up both sides of the dress. Its sexy sexy sexy but then again it’s Italian… This brand got started in Milan in 1958 when Mila Schon decided it was time for her to express her personal point of view: the vision of an uncut, silently opulent luxury with no frills. It was in that time period that film stars like Audrey Hepburn & Elizabeth Taylor forth fell in love with Italian designs while filming there during the 50′s & 60′s. When Truman Capote held his legendary Black and White Ball held at the Plaza Hotel in NYC, Marella Agnelli (Google the name) was voted best dressed guest, in a sheer embroidered Schon kaftan. Lee Radziwill, Jackie Kennedy Onassis, Iran’s Farah Diba & Imelda Marcos were amongst Schon’s clients… She collected modern art from Victor Vasarely, Kenneth Noland, Alexander Calder & Lucio Fontana which reflected in her designs when it came to color and patterns… This is a fabulous label and one that I was thrilled to have gotten… Remember folks dressing in recycled clothing today is the way for a better tomorrow!!! </span></p><div class="addtoany_share_save_container addtoany_content_bottom"><div class="a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_target addtoany_list"><a class="a2a_dd addtoany_share_save" href="http://www.addtoany.com/share_save#url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thethrifters.net%2F2014%2F04%2F17%2Fmila-schon-70s-sexy-lounge-dress-for-any-occasion%2F&title=Mila%20Schon%2070s%20sexy%20lounge%20dress%20for%20any%20occasion%E2%80%A6.&description=%C2%A0%20There%20are%20just%20so%20many%20damn%20cool%20things%20about%20this%20Mila%20Schon%2070%20s%20dress%20I%20really%20don%20t%20know%20where%20to%20begin.%20%C2%A0First%20lets%20start%20by%20the%20color...%20will%20you%20just%20check%20out%20the%20shade%20of%20pink..."><img src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/plugins/add-to-any/share_save_256_24.png" width="256" height="24" alt="Share" /></a></div></div></div>Oscar de la Renta from Saks 90s velvet gown…https://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/oscar-de-la-renta-from-saks-90s-velvet-gown2014-04-10T11:30:50.000Z2014-04-10T11:30:50.000ZDaniel Troppyhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/DanielTroppy<div><div id="gallery-1" class="gallery galleryid-18551 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail"><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/10/oscar-de-la-renta-from-saks-90s-velvet-gown/img_0910/" title="IMG_0910"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0910-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0910" title="IMG_0910" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/10/oscar-de-la-renta-from-saks-90s-velvet-gown/img_0911/" title="IMG_0911"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0911-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0911" title="IMG_0911" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/10/oscar-de-la-renta-from-saks-90s-velvet-gown/img_0914/" title="IMG_0914"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0914-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0914" title="IMG_0914" /></a></dt></dl><br /><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/10/oscar-de-la-renta-from-saks-90s-velvet-gown/img_0915/" title="IMG_0915"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0915-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0915" title="IMG_0915" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/10/oscar-de-la-renta-from-saks-90s-velvet-gown/img_0916/" title="IMG_0916"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0916-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0916" title="IMG_0916" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/04/10/oscar-de-la-renta-from-saks-90s-velvet-gown/img_0917/" title="IMG_0917"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0917-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0917" title="IMG_0917" /></a></dt></dl><br /><br /></div><p></p><p></p><p> </p><p> </p><p>This vintage 90s Oscar de la Renta velvet gown is a show-stopper if ever I’ve seen one. I love it just a little bit off the shoulders and I love the added bow in the back above the sexy slit. Oscar de la Renta has been designing now for what feels like forever and he’s a designer that I never get bored with. He is always 2 steps ahead of the curb and he really does know his textiles. He knows how to blend fabrics and patterns just beautifully. de la Renta 90s LBD (little black dress) is a show stopper if I’ve ever seen one. Just look at the construction of this LBD. It’s so gorgeous and timeless but that’s is what you expect when you find something this grand from Oscar de la Renta. I don’t think a woman can ever have enough little black dresses in her closet…. NEVER. This could look stunning with that red and white polka dot cropped vintage YSL jacket you have already hanging in your closet… Wear a LBD solo or with a jacket, belt or scarf (to change things up) and always a nice pair of heels and you’ll be the talk of the town and what woman doesn’t want that???? I mean just stunning. The big bold flower print is like wearing a piece of art. Everything about this layered silk 80s dress just says “<em><strong>bring it on</strong></em>” !!! It isn’t everyday that I run into this label but I can tell you this, Hanae Mori is very chic and in the 70s & 80s major movie stars wore this label. This is a chic and sexy dress that I just has many more miles to go before it sleeps… I’m Daniel Troppy your vintage luxury curator! </span></p><div class="addtoany_share_save_container addtoany_content_bottom"><div class="a2a_kit a2a_kit_size_32 a2a_target addtoany_list"><a class="a2a_dd addtoany_share_save" href="http://www.addtoany.com/share_save#url=http%3A%2F%2Fwww.thethrifters.net%2F2014%2F03%2F27%2Fhanae-mori-80s-layered-silk-flower-print-dress%2F&title=Hanae%20Mori%2080s%20layered%20silk%20flower%20print%20dress..&description=%C2%A0%20This%2080s%20Hanae%20Mori%20silk%20layered%20flower%20dress%20is%20stunning.%20%C2%A0I%20mean%20just%20stunning.%20%C2%A0The%20big%20bold%20flower%20print%20is%20like%20wearing%20a%20piece%20of%20art.%20%C2%A0Everything%20about%20this%20layered%20silk%2080s%20dress%20just%20says%20bring%20it%20on%20!!!%20%C2%A0%20It%20isn%20t%20everyday%20that%20I%20run%20into%20this%20label%20but%20I%20can%20tell%20you%20this%2C%20Hanae%20Mori%20is%20very%20chic%20and%20in%20the%2070s%20%26%2080s%20major%20movie%20stars%20wore%20this%20lab..."><img src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/plugins/add-to-any/share_save_256_24.png" width="256" height="24" alt="Share" /></a></div></div></div>Valentino + St John vintage belts….https://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/profiles/blogs/valentino-st-john-vintage-belts2014-03-19T11:47:29.000Z2014-03-19T11:47:29.000ZDaniel Troppyhttps://www.fashionindustrynetwork.com/members/DanielTroppy<div><div id="gallery-1" class="gallery galleryid-18402 gallery-columns-3 gallery-size-thumbnail"><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/03/19/valentino-st-john-vintage-belts/img_0729-2/" title="IMG_0729"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0729-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0729" title="IMG_0729" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/03/19/valentino-st-john-vintage-belts/img_0730-2/" title="IMG_0730"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0730-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0730" title="IMG_0730" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/03/19/valentino-st-john-vintage-belts/img_0731-2/" title="IMG_0731"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0731-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0731" title="IMG_0731" /></a></dt></dl><br /><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/03/19/valentino-st-john-vintage-belts/img_0732-2/" title="IMG_0732"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0732-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0732" title="IMG_0732" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/03/19/valentino-st-john-vintage-belts/img_0733-2/" title="IMG_0733"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0733-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0733" title="IMG_0733" /></a></dt></dl><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/03/19/valentino-st-john-vintage-belts/img_0735/" title="IMG_0735"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0735-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0735" title="IMG_0735" /></a></dt></dl><br /><dl class="gallery-item"><dt class="gallery-icon"><a href="http://www.thethrifters.net/2014/03/19/valentino-st-john-vintage-belts/img_0736/" title="IMG_0736"><img width="150" height="150" src="http://www.thethrifters.net/wp-content/uploads/2014/02/IMG_0736-150x150.jpg" class="attachment-thumbnail" alt="IMG_0736" title="IMG_0736" /></a></dt></dl></div><p><span>Remember me blabbing about how great hats & scarves as accessories were??? I forgot to mention belts. Yes the belt that was documented for male clothing since the Bronze Age. The Bronze Age was 3 thousand years BC. Saying that you know how long the belt has been around but I don’t think BC or even AD they had fashionable belts like Valentino or St John which was a pity. Can’t you just see all those Romans walking around wearing Valentino sarong with matching Valentino belts??? Everyone needs a good stylish belt….
