That's So New York - Charmingly titled “Miss Porter's School for Girls”Fleur Wood’s Autumn/Winter 2011 offering takes its name from a private girl’s college which has been educating the daughters of the United State’s elite since1843.  Inspired by the socialites, heiresses and debutantes that attended the school, including the most famous of all Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis, Wood’s collection mixes hints of preppy school-girl styling with sultry rebellion and old world inborn sophistication for a look that straddles classic and sexy.

Fleur Wood’s signature love for vintage detailing offset with a modern elements is evident throughout the collection- cream crochet lace inserts on a sienna blouse which affirms relaxed chic, a traditional silk rust jacket on digital print black and white skirt is both sharp and refined, the conservative tiny floral print on an ultra low neck ruffled cotton voile dress is simultaneously nostalgic and flirtatious.

There are relaxed casuals - basic plaid skirts, relaxed turtlenecks and off shoulder oversize tops in teal, neutral stripers and mélange fabrics, printed dresses and then there are smart casuals – a neat waistcoat style dress in denim, fitted shorts, pleated and slim fit trousers. Novel dresses seem to be her forte – simple with subtle self prints and self embroidery, intricate contrast detailing near hems and unique prints. The occasion dresses are the perfect balance of style and comfort with crisp tailoring and minimal, but effective trims – be it the chic black flock print party top, the low cut digital print dress with puff sleeves, the chiffon and satin ruffled party dress in teal or the strikingly beautiful ‘Heiress’ silk crepe dress in grey floral silk crepe. The fabulous walnut cotton trench (Vanderbilt trench) is a wardrobe essential and features in the March 2011 issue of Marie Claire.

A beautiful luxe jersey cardigan available in cream, grey and taupe is definitely the icing on the cake.
