I really don’t know why I even bothered going over to THRIFTique in Atlanta but I did.  I try to make myself go there at least once every 2 or 3 years because I’m always hopeful they will have come down to Earth and life will be back to normal.  Sadly this is one thrift store in Atlanta that just escapes my realm of reality.  Let me give you Webster’s definition of the word “thrift” and we can go from there.

thrift shop

 noun

Definition of THRIFT SHOP

: a shop that sells secondhand articles and especially clothes and is often run for charitable purposes.

Ok now with that in mind I wish someone would please explain to me why when I went in there recently I saw $125 on a Valentino dress, $45 on a Carolyne Roehm dress that was missing a button, $80 Louis Feraud suit and I’ve even seen $200 on a St John dress before.  Here is my problem with those high prices, they are thrift stores not consignment stores.  Huge difference people……  I own a consignment store, Doubletake Recycled Luxury, I know the difference between the two especially since I’ve been a thrifter now for over 31 years.  When thrift stores think they can charge Neiman Marcus prices that’s when everyone that shops there should complain to their management.  Believe I know this works because years ago I wrote a very unpleasant blog post of a thrift store they couldn’t figure out if they were thrift or consignment that is until they read my post.  Later when I went in to see if the prices had come down, they had indeed and still remain “thrift store prices”.  Maybe THRIFTique believes they can get away with these overinflated prices because they can attract the wannabe Neiman Marcus crowd but I would like to think we are much smarter than that.  For a thrift store that is run by the Buckhead Christian Ministry I don’t find these high prices very Christian….
