Love this vintage Valentino dress on every level.  First I always crack up when I see the sizes because this linen dress says it’s a size 12 but it’s so vintage it’s really a size 4!  I love the peplum effect.  I love that it has pockets.  I love that the buttons are big round and fun.  If you could see the interior of this dress you would know why they have always called this man The King of Luxury….  Known simply by his first name, Valentino Garavani is one of Italy’s finest exports.  Universally admired for his exquisite couture creations and romantic red carpet gowns, he is now in his eighties and still holding court even though he has long retired from his eponymous label, he remains a significant figure in the fashion world.  When he was 17 he moved to Paris and studied at the Ecole des Beaux-Arts, he then apprenticed at Jean Desses where he sketched every moment he could.  Before returning to Italy he did a brief stint at Guy Laroche.  When Valentino returned back to Italy he brought with him to Rome the grandeur that he had experienced firsthand in Paris, establishing a reputation among the elite of the Dolce Vita.  Did you know that when Jacqueline Kennedy married Aristotle Onassis, Jackie O wore a Valentino wedding dress???  Chic isn’t it? When you find a vintage Valentino you are finding just more than the actual item, you are finding a little piece of fashion history!  I’m Daniel Troppy and I’m your vintage luxury curator!
