The Zen of Sarees

A saree, sari or sari is the traditional Indian costume worn in Indian subcontinent. Though it is worn in many states, the style of wearing it, varies from place to place. This ethnic wear is worn by people for many centuries. It is the leading ethnic outfit of all for Indian women. It is available in different styles, patterns, colors and more varieties.

How to Drape Saree?
This traditional ethnic wear is draped around the waist, one end should be inserted into the hip and the other end should be in the shoulder. The saree is worn over petticoats, paved or lehenga.

Let’s see in detail about some sarees,

Half and Half Saree: It's a kind of saree worn by girls between puberty and marriage. It's a two-piece saree that has a paved and dhavani. Dhavani may be in length from 2 to 2.5 meters. Is named as ghagra choli in North India. It's a transition for women from half saree to share. N South India at an age ceremony, girls wore this half saree that was given by the maternal grandparents, and then they wore their first saree which was given by their parents grandparents.

Tussar silks: It is also known as Tulsa, Tushar, Tassar and in Sanskrit it is called as cassia silks. It is produced from larvae of several species of silkworms. 40% is produced by West Bengal and also in Bhagalpur in Bihar, where it is also called as Bhagalpur silks.

Kanjeevaram Saree: South India’s banarasi saris. It is produced from the pure mulberry silk thread. According to Hindu belief, the weaver of these silks are the descendants of Sage Markanda. They are unique by their wide contrast borders. Temple borders, checks, stripes, booties' are traditional designs found in Kanchipuram sarees.

Lehenga Saree: Lehenga or gaga is Hindi, Urdu, Kashmiri, Punjabi, Gujarati or Pavadai in Tamil. It is a form of skirt made from the Indian subcontinent which is long in length that is embodied and pleated. This is a mix of a traditional saree and a lehenga choli. It can be worn as a normal saree and no need of pleats. It is 4.5 meters to 5.5 meters long. It is simply referred as ‘ Tuck and drape’
