Did you know that in Ayurveda (the Indian science of health/wellness) a person's health is linked to the state of their surroundings?  I learned this while speaking to an Air Force officer who discovered Ayurveda in his travels (we were staying at his place for the July 4th holiday).  He mentioned that surrounding space is the same as the air, or "vata" element, and an imbalance could negatively affect a person's health.  Another way to put it is, if you don't have enough breathing room, you'll feel constricted, crowded, and ultimately your body and your mindset will reflect this!

This was a great reminder to me to pass on many of my clothes that I don't currently wear and re-evaluate my closet, performing my own closet edit so to speak..  I frequently try to tweak and improve it, as well as other areas of my life (food, my business, work/life balance, relationships, etc).  The closet is one of the first things we see in the morning, and it's frustrating, sometimes even depressing to be faced with clothes that don't fit, need repair, are too big or small, or simply don't match with our current lifestyle.  I find that if I reorganize and clean up my closet - even without shopping - I can find more things to wear and move into client meetings, speaking engagements, and personal styling sessions with that much more confidence.

Often, simple pieces that are well made and look fabulous become the foundation for a variety of outfits.  My  space is cleaner and the air is literally more breathable.  My mind is clear, and I can focus much more readily on work and what I have to do.  I'm reminded that life doesn't need to be complex; in fact, it's meant to be simple.  The richness comes when we have fewer things that give us more: more time, more enjoyment, more meaning.  And we can start wherever we want, I just happen to start with closets!
