I’ve told you before about all the magical powers Dawn Kaufman has but maybe this time you’ll really believe me.  Dawn texted me and told me she was bring in a pile of clothes, to my consignment store – DOUBLETAKE RECYCLED LUXURY, she had just discovered at an estate sale.  Little could prepare me for being completely blown away by Dawn’s treasure of goodies.  Dawn walks into DOUBLETAKE with: Ungaro 80′s silk dress still with price tag, Thierry Mugler 80′s dress still with price tag, Chanel 80′s silk blouse never worn, Chloe 80′s silk blouse never worn, Bill Blass from I.Magnin 80′s dress still with price tag, Andrea Laug 80′s plaid sequin jacket still with the $2,525 price tag on it, Karl Lagerfeld 2 piece purple knit 80′s piece, Norma Kamali 80′s red long skirt, Giorgio Armani 90′s gold velvet bloomers still with tags on it, Prada navy blazer with Blumarine wool slacks, Giorgio Armani black velvet slacks and Bill Blass 70′s gray striped skirt.  Now you know what I’m talking about when I tell you about Dawn’s magical powers….  So you know I had to ask her some questions…

Q: Dawn you found the mother load of vintage luxury goodies at an estate sale can you tell us how you heard about this estate sale and how often do you go to them?

A: I’m on the EstateSales.net mailing list.  So, I look that over every week and pick out a few in my area.  I will typically go the last day when everything is marked down.

Q:  Do you know any history of this lady that owned these items?

A:  While I was looking around I heard a couple of rumors that she was a stylist or worked for Neiman Marcus.  I did ask when I checked out and was told that she was just a single, wealthy lady that loved to shop and would buy something in every color!  Since she had no family all of her money went to charity.

Q:  You bought a pile of vintage luxury items into DOUBLETAKE RECYCLED LUXURYthat still had the price tags on them left over from the 80′s.  What did you think when you first noticed that these clothes still had their price tags attached?

A:  I thought, these pieces are probably very collectible!

Q:  Can you please tell us what you paid for these lovely items and please explain to us why you felt the need to buy them?

A: I went the first day and found so many things, but of course everything was full price.  The thrifty shopper that I am decided to put everything back and come back on the last day when everything would be 50% off.  I paid $500 for about 12 pieces.  That was definitely a lot of money for me but I thought, how often am I going to come across these fantastic designers pieces new, with tags???

Q:  What is your favorite piece from this collection?  Mine is the Thierry Mugler dress that still has the original Neiman Marcus 80′s price tag on it… that just blew my mind.

A:  I would say the Ungaro silk printed dress.  I love the pattern and fabric.  This piece doesn’t look like much on the hanger, but fits very sexy.  This was definitely a great find.  I was blown away that one person had all these amazing things and never worn them.  I was also surprised the prices were so high on the tags.  It shows they really hold their value.

Well I would totally agree with you on that last comment.  These pieces were never “cheap” and today since they are considered collectible ,especially with their original price tags on most of them, they are desirable.  Dawn you win the AWARD for having one of Atlanta’s best “eye” for style and design and I’m so proud of you for shopping “green” and of course for bring them into DOUBLETAKE so that I can find them all new homes!
