I recently got an email from Nikki Hall who was in DC on a trip and hit the mother load at an estate. She said she had gotten Ferragamo, Robert Lee Morris, Genny, Adolfo, Carlos Falchi, Akris, Karl Lagerfeld and Scherrer all for over $200.  Nikki was told by the woman who ran the estate sale that the clothes belonged to a woman that was going into a retirement home.  Nikki wrote to tell me her story because she reads The Thrifters and I inspire her to dig for vintage treasures and the thing I loved the most in her note was her closing last few words…”I don’t even go into malls or H&M anymore “!!!!   So you know I had to ask her a few questions……

Q:  Please tell The Thrifters readers your name and share with us where you bought all these lovely treasures…

A: My name is Nikki Hall and I am a thrifting newbie. I used to be so overwhelmed by thrift stores but since discovering your blog I’ve gotten motivated to start digging for treasures. I found all of this amazing stuff at an estate sale in Bethesda, MD. I was in DC for the weekend and saw a listing for the sale on estatesales.net. The listing had no pictures but indicated that the sale would have vintage Pucci so I made plans to go and to get there early. The house was unassuming on the outside but was filled with beautiful furniture and accessories and of course these beautiful clothes.

Q: Was this your first estate sale or do you frequent them often?

A: I started going to estate sales this spring after a friend told me I should try them because I have acquired an affinity for designer vintage.  I go in my hometown pretty much every weekend there is one. If I am traveling, I check the listings in the city I’m visiting. This was the ultimate score but at other sales I have found a vintage Pucci scarf, a Dior scarf, a vintage St John suit, and costume jewelry that is of much higher quality than what is sold today.

Q: What was the first piece you found and tell us what you were feeling / thinking???

A:  The first piece I found at the sale was a cream Ferragamo belt for 20 dollars.  I liked it but I thought it was a bit expensive. When I found the vintage Karl Lagerfeld skirt and the vintage Scherrer suit I almost fainted!

Q:  How many items did you find and what did you end up paying for all this?

A:  I got nine pieces including two suits and a Carlos Falchi clutch all for $223 dollars!! That’s more than I would spend in a thrift store but there normally wouldn’t be that much in one thrift store.

Q:  What is your dream piece you are dying to find??

A:  My dream piece right now is a vintage Halston dress or jumpsuit. I’ve found the JC Penney version but not the original but I know I will and I will jump for joy!

Thank you Nikki for sharing your story with The Thrifters site and for doing your part to help  keep this planet “green”.  When Nikki purchased her items she did so knowing that all the environmental toxic damages have already occurred because it’s second hand.  I loved hearing your estate sale haul story Nikki and my guts is telling me that you will indeed find that vintage Halston piece you are dreaming about.  Thanks for keeping it “green”.
