Penelope Cruz on her favourite characters

It’s day nine of the 74th Venice Film Festival and the scene at the legendary Hotel Cipriani on the tiny island of Giudecca, overlooking St Mark’s Square, couldn’t be more cinematic. Penélope Cruz is sipping tea from a dainty china cup in the hotel’s Oro Restaurant, with not another diner in sight. Her hair is a little tousled and her chestnut eyes shine brightly as sunlight pours into the elegant waterfront room. In the distance, a little fishing boat bobs gently on the shimmering waters of the

For 18-year-old model Rina Fukushi, Tokyo is home. But growing up as a mixed-race child in Japan wasn't always easy. With a Japanese-American father and a Filipina mother, Fukushi was one of a growing number of biracial individuals identifying as "hafu" -- a phonetic play on the English word "half."

"I was teased when I was in elementary and junior high school because I looked foreign," she recalled in an interview with CNN.

The term hafu was first popularized in the 1970s as Japan loosened its ap

Some 72% of couples still have the man’s last name with 11% confirming that they had compromised by going for a double-barrelled version. A number of couples ev

Students strike a pose for fashion show tryouts

What happens when an announcement goes out on a college campus about a fashion show? Dreams of runway stardom are born.

On Oct. 13, students and young people from the community showed up for a fashion show audition in the HEC building. Some of them had hopes of being a model; others were enthusiastic about supporting a charitable cause.

Zach Swanson, a Running Start student from Pierce College Puyallup, was one of them. He is pursuing a degree in fashion design and was one of the youngest fashion

“For the past 12 years, I’ve spent my career on runways and fashion sets across the globe. In that time I worked with the best beauty artists and experts. After meeting her co-founder, Divya Gugnani, who Ellingson describes as a “serial entrepreneur”, the pair decided to

Fashion designer Victoria Beckham has said that she was a little inexperienced when he was starting off her career in the industry.

The 43-year-old designer, who has made a name for herself in the industry in the past nine years, said she knew people will judge her, reported Vogue.

“I was very aware that people had preconceptions. I was a Spice Girl, I was married to a footballer, so I was aware, but I was probably (also) quite naive going into the fashion industry,” Beckham said at the Vogue Forc

First, let’s perish the thought that men ‘shop’ per se. Actually, men just ‘buy’. Shopping is a preserve of women, or so it seems. Look, ordinarily, if men must go shopping, they treat it as a mission — which they execute with surgical precision and decisiveness. When a man walks into a shopping centre, he knows exactly what he wants to buy; he goes for the targeted good (or service), grabs it, pays, and ‘flees’ the shop (as if it were a crime scene!). If anything, impulse buying is alien vocabu

A word of advice if you're planning a destination wedding: Pack your wedding dress and/or tuxedo in your carry-on.

Unfortunately, the groom learned this lesson the hard way. Reddit user Zebidee, a friend of the newly married couple, shared a photo from their Icelandic nuptials to Reddit. "If you want to wind up in the same country as your wedding outfits, don't fly Delta Air Lines," the user wrote. The caption, which accompanies a photo of a woman in a wedding gown kissing a man with a slightly l

Why men date but never marry stunningly beautiful women

As a woman, it’s a ‘curse’ to be devastatingly beautiful. Well, it may seem a ‘blessing’ initially because you’ll hog men’s attention — but, obviously, for the wrong reasons. Most men see such women — especially if they lack charming personalities — as being only useful as ‘good time girls’. Not as wives. Yes, men ‘worship’ them. But never marry them. For instance, when such types crack boring jokes — those that you have to tickle yourself to giggle when told by Plain Janes — men still laugh hea

Fashion in a time of conflict

EMBATTLED but unbowed, Mindanao struggles to maintain a semblance of normalcy after the imposition of martial law. There’s a humanitarian crisis while the clashes are ongoing in Marawi City, and the repercussions can be felt far and wide on the island. Still, resilience is key, as these fashion practitioners prove so impressively.

Maybe it started with Game of Thrones and a certain blonde’s cult following, maybe not. All we know is, every colorist we’ve visited lately has divulged that everyone is clamoring for “ice blonde” in the salon chairs. “The shade is trending, but it's always been in style—it’s the new platinum blonde,” says Tessa Sprauer, a colorist at ARROJO Soho. Basically, it's a blonde so blonde it's bordering on silver. The names of the shades mean something different to everyone, so to avoid any confusion,
