Finding this vintage Katherine Hamnett 2 piece super short skirt with matching jacket brought back some very delightful memories.  I was living in Dallas in 84 and working for HD’s Clothing Company, the only place anyone ever needs to shop in Dallas in my opinion, and that’s when I became familiar with Katherine Hamnett.  In 85 when she did the iconic t-shirt “Stay Alive in 85″ of course I owned a red one.  Fast forward to today I still have 2 pair of black slacks from the 80′s that I still wear and can’t live without.  Katherine Hamnett is an iconic British Fashion Designer, with international status. She launched her company in 1979 and throughout Katherine’s career she has always tried to be ethical, whilst remaining a successful designer.  In 1989 Katherine commissioned research into the impact of the clothing industry and discovered a catastrophe.   The clothing industry was environmentally and ethically untenable.  10,000 deaths a year from accidental pesticide poisoning, a million long term acute poisoning, desertification and long term contamination to aquifers and rivers and a huge amount of people working in conditions tantamount to slavery.  She’s always designed t-shirts that have a message like “Use a Condom”, “Preserve the Rainforest”, “No WAR” & “Save the Seas” to name only a few.  Her activism has always made me a huge fan of her work so you know I was so delighted when I saw this 2 piece vintage 80′s suit hanging in the thrift store.  I scored this black Hanii Y blouse that adds a nice touch of sexy to this very classic suit.  Keep it “green” by recycling, reusing & reducing your waste.  I’m your luxury curator!
