Halston III black wool dress circa 1980′s…

I believe I struck gold when I found this early 80′s Halston III black wool dress because the Halston III label was the label he designed for JCPenny that eventually ended this brilliant man’s career.  If you haven’t already watched ULTRSUEDE: In Search of Halston please reserve yours on Netflix this second!!   The Halston label went into decline with the introduction of the Halston III line for JCPenny in 1983 –  upscale department stores did not like the idea of a line that was also available in middle class department stores.  Eventually he lost control of his name…  Halston was the first American designer to show his collection in Paris in the 70′s, he was decades ahead of his time.  Way before Isaac Mizrahi, Proenza Schouler or Zac Posen did their lines for Target, unfortunately for Halston, he was 30 years to early.  You have to remember that the Halston brand in the eyes of elite New York stores like Bergdorf Goodman along with other high end department stores, stopped selling the higher priced Halston lines.  This black wool size 4 Halston III dress with pockets probably retailed at JCPenny’s for $50-60 and in the 80′s that was very expensive, in today’s value that was like $250-280.  This vintage Halston III wool dress is in pristine condition and a real prize because it was this line of mid priced clothes he wanted average American women to enjoy that would lead to the end of the road.  Be STYLISH go green.  Daniel your luxury curator!
