You know how much I love thrifting and how much I love meeting new thrifters well guys I recently met a professional thrifter and she’s amazing. Her name is Dawn and her passion for collecting vintage luxury is on par with mine . I met her when she came into Doubletake Recycled Luxury Boutique (my store) and wanted to consign a few items. I love her refined eye and so given that, I had to ask her a few questions so here goes….
Q: Dawn how long have you been such a serious or serial thrifter? A: About 8 years.
Q: Do you remember what your very first treasure you found was and where did you find it? A: I found a gorgeous vintage Chanel dress for $25 and it was at an estate sale.
Q: Did you ever approach “thrifting” from an environmental friendly “green” angle or was it simply shopping for luxury? Thrifting to me is all about recycling what are your thoughts on that? A: I do it for the excitement. Just knowing that these items once belonged to someone else is intriguing and yes I’m all about recycling as well.
Q: How often do you thrift? A: I thrift as often as I can ! I have a full time job that allows me to travel all over Atlanta, so I’m able to dart in and out of thrift stores on my breaks. On the weekend I’m on the hunt all day long…
Q: Do you find that the more frequently you thrift the better your eye gets for quality & design? A: I definitely think it does. I meet so many people while I do this and they share their knowledge with me. I learn about new labels continuously.
Q: What would you consider your Holy Grail is? The item you are dying to find? A: I’m dying to find a Halston vintage jumper !
