Label Urvashi Kaur instantly brings to mind luxury and exquisitely stylised women’s wear. Inspired by the theme Revelation, her outfits pampered womanhood and emphasised on body curves. These had thoughtfully placed embellishments and detailing on necklines, sleeves and waistline.Urvashi’s Autumn/Winter’09 collection exuded subtle opulence through a colour palette comprising rustic and muted shades of Indian spices. Cascading from lighter to deeper shades of aniseed (sage green), bay leaf, gravel, and dry tamarind, cinnamon, umber, cloves and smoked peppercorn. The detailing was perfect, with lots of tiny frills, layering, ruffles, smocking, ruching and asymmetric balloon hems that turned the Indian handloom fabrics like chanderi, tassar silk and cotton silks into romantic, wearable and feminine wear. The silhouettes were practical as the smocked and layered tops, teamed with flowy, tiered skirts, softly ruched pants. Variations of dhoti-style skirts and Jodhpuri pants completed the eveningwear line. The highpoint of the show were cocoon and trapeze-shaped jumpsuits and jackets, the peg-shaped high-waist skirts teamed up with Y-shaped kimono tops and layered laltain sleeve tops with cowled trousers. Kaur’s Autumn/Winter’09 collection captured moods of the progressive woman.Source: Fibre2fashion
