People always ask me what is my favorite found treasure and for me that’s hard to answer but I can indulge in one of my favorite items.  I was at a thrift store about 8 years ago and noticed this silver apple and thought it was unique looking, design wise, and reached on the shelf and grabbed it.  I opened up the apple and noticed the 6 tiny shot glasses inside, as far as bar collectible objects go this ranks pretty high on the list but it gets better.  I put the top back on and turned it upside down to see if there were any marking and not only was there a marking but a pretty damn good one when you see the word Cartier.  I stood there in a frozen trance for what felt like eternity not believing my luck.  This was the second item from Cartier I had ever found, the first was a burgundy briefcase I found for $3.00 and later sold it stupidly on eBay.  To this day I kick myself in the ass for selling that on eBay, finding Cartier in a thrift store is a freak of nature rare occurrence.  Oh I forgot to mention that this apple Cartier piece was $3.25.  I later emailed Cartier’s headquarters with photos asking them if they had any information on this piece and my reply was that it was indeed Cartier and if I wanted additional info I would have to pay them $500 so that they could dig up their achieves to find out who commissioned the piece I passed on that but the thought of finding out who commissioned this piece has always intrigued me…  Did Lauren Bacall commission this for Humphrey Bogart or did Katherine Hepburn commission this for Spencer Tracy?  I’ll never know for sure unless I shelled out the big bucks but until then I’ll imagine all the possibilities…
