"Where the Shimmer Lies"

That's So New York - I can thank online-retailer OAK NYC entirely for my discovery of unique/alternative up-and-coming label, Odeur. Odeur specalise in creating simple yet inspiring unisex collections which immitate both sterotypical characteristics as well as that of their own. One collection in-particular which grabbed my attention was their most recent Spring/Summer 2011 collection which incorperated both light and dark palettes to create a mixture of urban and preppy attire. I have been pondering the transformation which Odeur have made since their establishment back in 2006 followed by a number of main-lines which consisted of a selection of graphic geometric printed tee's, later developing into a broad line which incorperated everything from shirts and blazers to simple faded vest-type tee's. To gain a scale of how the label has grown, Odeur caption themselves on their official website in their 'About' section"Today Odeur is designed by Petter Hollström and Gorjan Lauseger and has spread to 17 countries, selling jeans, outerwear, accessories and fashion clothing. The collection is represented at, amongst others, Harvey Nichols in Hong Kong, Temporary Showroom in Berlin, Oki-Ni in London and OAK NYC in New York." - Now if that isn't success, what is?

Okay, enough of the introductions, I'm sure we all know eachother pretty well by now; onto the main subject, the Spring/Summer 2011 collection. Titled Where the Shimmer Lies, I would have initially thought that this collection would have been jammed packed with metallic materials and excessive amounts of glitter and glam, yet instead it seems that rather than the Shimmer lying, it was the title which lied as the collection consisted of a range of simple yet admirable pieces, captioned "A use of mixed bright summer colours in contrast to a more dark scale, this collection is made rich and easy by its mix of materials as well as by details of metallic copper – the new gold. A playful relationship to the silhouette, a focus on details and unexpected cuttings characterizes the unisex collection – as always." Okay, so it is quite evident that the metallic features were not a huge part of the collection, but I suppose I should take back my initial opinion seeming there is a hint of shine on the buttons and zippers, right? Before I actually managed to take a detailed flick through the collection, I was presented with the campaign images which were suprisingly the one feature which managed to grab my attention in the first place with the use of admirable models and lighting to create a stamped erm, wow?feeling in my mind.

8842940300?profile=originalDespite the fact that I couldn't even attempt a negative comment in regards to the campaign models and images, I can't quite say the same when taking a glance at the runway video. Yes, as usual the garments are displayed perfectly and the entire collection looks like something I would easily grab hold of and sit in for a month (despite the fact that would be a little gross) yet not the female models, but the male models seem to constantly look a little lost? I had a quick watch of the runway video and was almost pushed to .. (Continue Reading
