Two Sugars or One?

That's So New YorkHenrik Vibskov is one designer I have been wanting to sit down and tap about for quite a while now; his Spring/Summer 2011 collection in-particularly grabbed my attention. Apologies that this post has been slightly neglected since my I first jotted up some of my original thoughts and opinions, purely because I suddenly began a small preaching session about Steampunk and what-not, yet I did promise you something a little more elegant, and I'm not one to break a promise. Roofless Cadillac’s, Zimbabwean tribes and tea and scones are just a couple of things which Vibskov’s Spring/Summer 2011 collection insinuated; all thanks to the use of giant puffy head-dress things (honestly, what are they?) which have been used throughout the collection, summarizing everything as a whole to be all a little Hollywood-Glam with the sunglasses and carelessness of the cuts used throughout each and every dress (much like a Hollywood lifestyle itself- carefree and laid back) yes, it was all thrown together very well, but the fact that Vibskov tried to throw a little bit of every trend we have seen even a glimpse of so far this year in there, did put me off just a little. (I mean, I know he's one for complicity yet I've never seen bulk amounts of complicity thrown into such a simple collection- if that makes sense at all? - Basically, he tried too hard- or something like that?)

With doubts in my mind, I couldn’t help but continue my flicking through the collection with countless questions intact, the majority asking “is this going to get better?” accompanied by a fair few shrieks of “PLEASE GET BETTER!” but as soon as I snatched a glimpse at the use of tribal patterns, I was sold. I’m not sure if it is just me, but the entire collection seems a little Indiana Jones inspired; fair enough I highly doubt that Vibskov sat down and watched the entire Indiana Jones franchise, yet in each and every dress or shirt design, I seem to keep having small flashbacks of Karen Allen’s minimalist safari-type costume which she wore during her role as Marion in 1981 Jones favorite, Raiders of the Lost Ark. (personally my favorite; apologies if I sound a little like your grandpa!)
