The police will take care of road safety

Out of concern for the safety of people traveling on the roads of the whole country on December 21-26, traffic policemen will conduct nationwide activities entitled.

In the run-up to Christmas, and on holidays, many families will set off on a journey to visit their relatives. Even if the road for some is not far away, it should be safe. Unfortunately, this is not always the case. Last year, on December 22-26, in 23 cases, one person was killed, and 32 were injured. This is a smaller number of events that are often recorded within business days. Nevertheless, the lack of caution and nonchalance on the roads are still the main causes of accidents.

Facing the diagnosed threats, the Police in these sensitive days will intensify the activities on the roads to ensure maximum safety of all travelers, especially on days of trips and return days.

During this exceptional period, police officers will do their best to support travelers by concentrating their activities in particular on providing road assistance to all road users. However, there can be no reduced fare for people who grossly violate traffic regulations and thus expose others to the risk of loss of life and health. Therefore, policemen serving on the roads will pay special attention to the state of sobriety, the technical condition of vehicles, the way of transporting passengers, especially children. They will also remind drivers to control their speed, that when traveling on holidays, you can not make up for the lost time.

Drivers driving a vehicle are responsible not only for their own safety but also for the safety of others. Passengers, on the other hand, should be aware that although they do not drive a vehicle, they can influence the safety of travel, e.g. using seat belts or refusing to allow the driver to exceed the speed limit or, worse, get behind the wheel after drinking alcohol or alcohol-like agents (drugs, medicines). Last year, as many as 97 intoxicated drivers were detained during the holiday season.

We should also pay special attention to the youngest road users, providing them with a safe journey in a safety seat that meets the right technical conditions.

Do not forget to prepare your car for the road. In winter conditions, first of all, check the lights, brakes, fluids and, of course, put on winter tires.

In conditions of insufficient visibility, drivers notice later than usual any unobstructed obstacles on the road, in particular, pedestrians dressed in clothing that is close to the environment (black, gray). It is worth it so that pedestrians wear reflective materials in a visible way for drivers of vehicles.

We remind you that it is the duty of all pedestrians who move on a roadway or roadside outside of a built-up area after dark. It is worth taking care of your safety by wearing reflective tapes in the built-up area.

During this festive time, let's take care of safety during the journey, so that our holidays will be peaceful, family and above all safe.
