Paris Couture Week 1st Day with Christophe Josse, Alexis Mabille’s,Georges Hobeika and Iris Van Herpen

You just have to look into their eyes to know they are dying to be wearing them: women would do anything to try on a Couture piece once in their life. And how could we not understand them? Those outfits are very often the most beautiful, precious, unique fashion items and Paris the place they choose to express themselves.

Haute Couture week kicked off today, and it’s hard to believe our eyes could stand so much beauty in such a short time! Christophe Josse was the first one to present his collection “Opulently Uncluttered” was the designer’s way to prove it is possible to create luxurious dresses without compulsorily exposing its expensiveness. And it worked. The church designed by the architect Tadao Ando in Ibaraki, Japan, was Christophe’s source of inspiration and we could indeed feel the serenity and yet strength emanating from the pieces. Black crocodile and feathers were largely used on tight knee length dresses, sometimes made a bit more eye-catching when worn with golden belts or sandals.

Dior presented a collection inspired by the 50’s with very pure lines and a lot of monochromic looks, even if some graphic A-line short dresses formed part of the collection. Alexis Mabille’s models walked around the Shangri-La suit a ponytail high on their heads, giving them an airy look, and dressed in sequined floor length dresses, black velvet dresses bordered with pearls and lame bronze fluid cocktail dresses.

We were taken back to our childhood and felt like we could all hear our mother telling us the story of a beautiful princess who fell in love with a beautiful prince at the Georges Hobeika show. Fairy tales were his starting points: organza with crystal stitches, tailored transparent sheer magenta and Bermuda blue dresses as well as velvet details composed the magic collection of the Libyan designer.

Iris Van Herpen, the young designer who has only presented few collections in Paris once again astonished us with her futuristic collection, which could not even be described with human words such as the work on volumes and textures makes it more art than fashion. She will without any doubt become a fashion master of this century.
