Milo Baughman bench…

Mitch and I went to the Scott Antique Markets in Atlanta several years ago and as we were driving in to park I saw the dealer carrying this bench across the parking lot.  We immediately parked and walked towards the bench and the first thing I did was lift it up and check for a label and oh was I pleased as punch.  This bench was designed by Milo Baughman in the 1960′s for Thayer Coggin.  I asked the dealer how much and he said $150 and we didn’t even attempt to offer anything lower considering this bench would sell for $2,500.  So Mitch paid the man because Mitch is my wallet if you know what I mean and we stuffed that bench in the back of his then new Nissan Altima.  Milo Baughman was one of the leading modern furniture designers of the second half of the 20th century. His uniquely American designs wereFORWARD-thinking and distinctive, yet unpretentious and affordable.  His designs are still in production and you can buy it today at DWR.  So the moral of this story is always keep your eyes open when you’re driving through a parking lot of an antique show. If you need a new piece of furniture try your local antique malls where you’ll find countless dealers selling their finds or pray to the GODS that you have  something like the Scott Antique Markets in your neighborhood…  Be STYLISH add some ‘green’ in your lifeSTYLE….
