Fashion photography is reflection of fashion in certain époque. What is its diversity from other kinds of photography? First of all, it presents things which make fashion and are fashionable. Secondly, an image, production, interest of a product are the main things in fashion photography, because audience should pay attention to picture`s brightness. Thirdly, it should have society appeal, people should be ready to perceive this product, to be interested in it, to embody ideas into reality.
I can say that the model is the “bullet point” of photo: the more attractive and sexual a model is – the more photo is beautiful. The main key of fashion photography is its queerness, virtuosity – things which you can rarely see in real life. But there also is another type of fashion photography – “sincere”. Such photos have less of make-up, clothes, but they impress by their simplicity and unusualness. Sometimes you look at the photo and it seems to be “dead”: they don`t emotionalize you, there is so much Photoshop there and that it seems that there is no place for a model, and there is a mannequin instead of her.
Is fashion worth to be involved in it seriously? I`m impressed with words of American photographer William Klein, “I think that fashion is fool. And I photographed it with humor. But I took advantage of getting good fees from Vogue. It was a simple work for me, it took just two months in a year”. Of course, for some person fashion is life and everyday labor, for another it is just fun, possibility to show himself… There should be some limit always, you should stop and rethink: is it right? You shouldn’t follow bright photos from magazines blindly – doesn’t matter, are you a photographer, a stylist, a make-up artist, a model… Each person just does his work and lives with it…
