Fall BL06887 ZOZ
As you may or may not know Prada has been around since 1913 and was started by brothers Mario and Martino Prada. In the beginning the company was an importer for English steamer trunks and handbags. At that time Mario Prada did not believe women should be in the workplace but his only son had no interest in running the business so he had no choice but to leave it to his daughter Luisa Prada. She successfully ran the business for twenty years before handing the realm down to her daughter, Miuccia Prada in 1978.

Miuccia met an Italian, Patrizio Bertellin who had begun his own leathergoods business at the age of 17. He joined the Prada company shortly after as business manager. He advised Miuccia to discontinue importing English goods and to change their existing styles. She released her first set of backpacks and totes in 1979. Success did not come easy but she was determined and sought out wholesale accounts to sell her bags in upscale boutiques and department stores worldwide.

They opened boutiques in Florence, Madrid, Paris and New York City. In 1985, Miuccia released the classic Prada handbag and became an overnight sensation. The Prada design became identified with affluent working women who held demanding jobs.

Prada’s originality made it one of the most influential fashion houses which became a high end status symbol in the 1990’s and still has that reputation today.

Animal prints are a big hit on the runways again this season. Featured here is a release from the Prada fall 2010 collection. The Prada Cavallino Pony handbag.
