I would think the idea would be to develop mid priced collections, license out lines using new designers they sign, under their label. Retailers such as H& M have signed designers, upcoming and lesser known to give themselves Designer status rather then just being retailers, creative marketing. I don't expect high end designers like Chanel, Gucci to all of a sudden be available at your mid market department stores, their Brand makes that impossible.
There are many ways to look at this...
