Julianne Moore looks to child stars-turn-fashion designers Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen for wardrobe inspiration, branding them her "style icons".

The Oscar winner is known for her stylish looks both on and off the red carpet, and instead of looking to more classic Hollywood stars for clothing tips, the actress reveals she is actually a big admirer of the 30-year-old twin moguls.

Julianne made the admission during a quickfire round of questions on U.S. talk show The View on Wednesday (20Jul16), when she was quizzed about a variety of her favourite things.

Asked who her style icon was, the Still Alice star immediately replied, "The Olsen Twins".

The 55-year-old did not elaborate on her response, but her answer clearly raised eyebrows among members of the studio audience.

Julianne also confessed her latest obsession was "plastic Birkenstocks", admitting she had just discovered the trendy jelly footwear through her hair stylist - and was already struggling to find a pair that fits.

"There are these new ones that are plastic...," she explained of the sandals, "and my friend Marcus, who's backstage and did my hair, is wearing them and I can't get them in women's sizes!"

During the lightening interview, Julianne also admitted her guilty pleasure was "fried food", her favourite movie Rosemary's Baby, named "sports" as her biggest fear, and noted her family was her biggest achievement.

Julianne isn't the only celebrity who looks to the Olsen twins for fashion inspiration - their younger sister, actress Elizabeth Olsen, admits she always has something to wear because there's always a package of their new clothes on her doorstep.
