The busy streets of Manila have provided inspiration for some of the most iconic works by Filipino artists through the years. From literature to visual arts, from films to photography, Manila has served either as central theme or a colorful background that simply cannot be ignored. Thanks to the city’s vibrant, dynamic nature, with each street bursting with color and diversity.

Now, it’s the turn of the fashion industry to show off the city at Manila Wear, a bi-annual showcase of the Philippine fashion scene’s most innovative minds, on April 21-26, at the World Trade Center in Pasay City.

Headed by international fashion icon Josie Cruz-Natori as creative director and mentor, Manila Wear creates a business setting for select designers to interact with their target market, fashion buyers and collectors from all over the globe.

Launched in 2012 as a branding initiative under Fashion Philippines, Manila Wear, a component of Manila FAME, aims to help develop the Philippines as a leading fashion destination in Asia and the world for high-quality, value, and design-forward pieces.

Through the years, Manila Wear has featured 60 of the most creative and innovative fashion designers , helping them not only get exposure to the global fashion market, but also in become ambassadors for the Philippine fashion industry and the Manila Wear brand. Each of the featured designers have been thoroughly selected not only for their ingenious designs but also for their innovative use of sustainable indigenous materials in their apparel, accessories, shoes, and other wearable creations.

The 9th edition’s theme is “Streets of Manila”, which will lift inspiration from the vibrant, colorful structures and busy streets of the capital. From ancient and modern buildings, to street celebrations and events to colorful graffiti, to even street names and the locals themselves, the streets of Manila are teeming with inspiration, which the Manila Wear designers will interpret through their collections.

Featured in this year’s Manila Wear are jeweler Adante Leyesa, Aranáz creative director Amina Aranaz-Alunan, couturier Joel Escober, handbag designer Lally Dizon, Joanique creator Malou Romero, jewelry and bag designer Carissa Cruz-Evangelista, accessories designer Ken Samudio, shoe designer Maco Custodio, jeweler Michelline Syjuco, fashion designer Jared Servano, jeweler Micki Olaguer, and couturier Thian Rodriguez.
