Tropical Thunder From Down Under

8842923696?profile=originalThat's So New YorkAt the 2011 Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week Swim, Lisa Burke’s ‘Lisa Blue’ Swimsuit Collection swept Miami by storm. In her third season, this collection was a mixture of Aborigine and renaissance art inspired cutout one pieces and separates. This show was truly unique with her use of Indigenous inspired body paint, feathers, Italian fabrics and French lace. Although Ms. Burke received backlash from her controversial use of Lakshmi's image, which is highly revered in the Hindu religion, the label has quoted on their Facebook wall, "We would like to offer an apology to anyone we may have offended and advise that the image of Goddess Lakshmi will not appear on any piece of Lisa Blue swimwear for the new season, with a halt put on all production of the new range and pieces shown on the runway from last week removed.” Not only is this collection stunning for the wearers, it is also for a cause. Twenty-five percent of the proceeds will go towards The Australian Whale Conservation Society (AWCS) which is a registered, non-profit environmental organization, based in Queensland, Australia.
