Summer Trend A: Neon Brights

A major trend on the international catwalks of the previous few seasons, vibrant neon shades are set to brighten up the Australian spring and summer. When it comes to neon, it’s up to the wearer how bold to go – those a little less daring can go for subtle neon yellow details against a neutral background as seen at Tovah. For those with no fear, the head to toe clashing neons seen at Ginger & Smart are a must.

Summer Trend B: Garden Party

If you invest in just one printed piece for the summer season make sure it is garden style floral print – be it a mirrored, oversized or ditzy, a floral print is a must to keep that wardrobe on trend. The garden print features on all possible garments, be it a stylish trouser suit, classic shirting or romantic skirts and dresses. Wear matching florals head to toe, clash contrasting prints together or simply add a ladylike floral accessory to be in style this season.

Summer Trend C: Pretty in Peplum

A trend that was all over the international catwalks last season, the ultra chic peplum has made the move to the Southern Hemisphere and is set to be a huge look for Spring/Summer 2012-2013. The stand-out shape creates curves on the hips, whilst nipping in the waist, creating a womanly hourglass silhouette. Featuring predominantly on classic and elegant evening dresses, the peplum is an update to the bodycon silhouette that was popular last season, the extra dimension being complimentary to all shapes and sizes.

Summer Trend D: Punchy Prints

Clashing prints were a major trend of last season and for Spring/Summer 2012-2013, prints are back and bolder than ever. Geometric, Aztec, Tribal and Animal prints are worn head to toe in vibrant and clashing colour ways. Whereas the prints of the previous season tended to be on the more subtle side, this time around oversized and colour shock versions are set to brighten up summer. Those not brave enough to wear and all over print, should invest in a really great pair of printed trousers, such as the monochrome version from Jac & Jack.

Summer Trend E: Collared Up

There was a lot of preppy influences on the Spring/Summer 2012-2013 catwalks, most notably the return of the collar. Whether it be a classic collared shirt, relaxed and casual collared dress or a statement collar piece, you wont be able to make it through the season without adding a collar to your wardrobe.

Summer Trend F: It’s All White

Whilst it was all about vibrant jewel tones last season, for Spring/Summer 2012-2013 it is all about crisp, classic white. Clean, sharp white was a key look on the catwalks, with a wide range of designers incorporating the hue into their seasonal collections. Definitely one to invest in thanks to it’s trans-seasonal appeal, chic winter white is sure to carry through to Winter 2013. To keep the look on trend, wearing white head to toe is a must so it may be best to avoid the red wine.

Summer Trend G: Sequins

The metallic trend re-emerges season after season like a phoenix from the ashes, just in a slightly different guise each time. For the Spring/Summer 2012-2013 season it is all about sparkling sequins in every colour of the rainbow – the bigger the bling the better! For a more subtle take on the sequins trend, add just a hint of sparkle with a sequin collar shirt, sequin clutch or a sequin blazer thrown over a crisp white outfit, killing two trends with one stone.

Summer Trend H: Asymmetric Hemlines

A number of dresses, skirts and tops have been given uneven hemlines this season, giving silhouettes an effortlessly chic appeal. The dipped back hem, with a short front hem and elongated back hem is the more popular silhouette, being a stand-out feature in the collections of many of Australia’s finest designers. The fashion forward style is incredibly wearable and is suitable for all occasions, from the office to the cocktail bar.

Summer Trend I: Fluidity

The bodycon silhouettes of Autumn/Winter 2012 are set to be replaced by a more fluid silhouette – sculpted tailoring and structured shapes have been pushed aside in favour of more relaxed, flowing shape that give an effortless look. Think long, floaty maxi dresses, oversized chiffon shirts, wide legged palazzo pants and plenty of exquisite layered drapery.

Summer Trend J: Tropical Paradise

Although not a major trend for the Spring/Summer 2012-2013 season, Tropical Prints still deserve a place on our trend edit. A classic look for the summer season, palm tree, exotic floral and animal prints feature predominantly in tandem with the fluidity trend – think beach worthy kaftans, maxi dresses and swimwear.

Summer Trend K: Pretty in Pastels

It may seem unbelievable that ice cream tones have persisted for yet another season, but it is true. Soft pastel shades are set to once again be a key trend of the season. Update the pretty pastels from your winter wardrobe, by teaming with some stand out floral prints and relaxed shapes. You may have been able to resist feminine sorbet shades throughout the winter, but surely Summer 2013 cannot go by without being seduced by the cheerful, playful tones.
