The Perfect Kid's Party Guide

Planning a party for young children can be stressful, but by following these simple tips, you can make your child's big day go down a treat with all their friends as well as impressing their parents.
ThemeOne of the first things to consider is whether or not you and your child want a theme for your party. Having a theme can often make planning activities for the kids much easier and also gives the added fun of letting them dress up. There are many low cost fancy dress shops online which have a wide range of options for both boys and girls, from pirates to princesses. It is usually a good idea to choose a unisex option and base it around either a classic theme, such as jungle animals, or around a new release, like the new Toy Story 3 film.

DecorationsIf you have chosen a theme then the decorations should be fairly simple. Balloons are a must have for any party and your theme will dictate the colours. A jungle animal themed party should have lots of green streamers and pictures of wild animals pinned around the house or garden. The cake should be a focal point so again make sure it fits in with your theme.

FoodRemember that kids love to pick at their food, so small or bite-sized options are the best for a kid's party. Pizza fingers, sausage rolls, small sandwiches perhaps cut into interesting shapes (again themes can really help here). For something healthier, cut up red and yellow peppers, carrots and cucumber into sticks and team them with houmous or a dip. A great way to get the kids to eat something good for them. Small cupcakes are a good idea and can easily be matched with any theme by altering their colour or by writing or drawing with icing. Another great idea is to have all the ingredients for an ice cream sundae out and let the kids make one themselves. Can be messy but is fantastic fun!

Beginning your party with a popular game such as musical statues is a great way to get the kids running around and the perfect appetite builder. Pin the Tail is a game which can be adapted according to your theme: princesses have to pin the crown on Snow White and jungle animals have to Pin the Tail on a lion. Pass the Parcel is a good game for after the kids have eaten and can be set up so everyone gets a prize. Work the games around to your theme; a treasure hunt would be perfect for a pirate party.

Party Bags Every good kids party has to have a goodie bag. They don't have to be expensive, just add bubbles, stickers, bouncy balls and of course a slice of cake for the perfect selection.Remember to keep the party fairly short (a few hours should be plenty) and to keep any siblings involved with all aspects of the party. Perhaps ask them to help with decorating the cakes or making the games.
If you follow all these tips, then your child and all their friends will have a great afternoon.
