After your engagement, you are going to want to choose a date for your wedding. This is the trickiest part of all, god knows I’ve changed my wedding date like a dozen times, main reason being the dates I wanted fell on weekdays, or public holidays.

Of course the common norm is to have your wedding on a weekend, so that it is convenient for guests to attend. I really wanted a nice date, you know something catchy, the ones that your husband has no excuse for forgetting. Below I will list the most important factors to consider when choosing your wedding date.

Choose your season:

Most brides already know if they want a Winter or Summer wedding. Personally I always wanted to get married when the temperatures are warm, yet bearable. Probably because I live in the UK, I am so fed up of the cold weather, and spontaneous rain showers. The most popular months to get married are June-October, reason being the weather is absolutely beautiful.

That being said, winter weddings are just as glamorous. Imagine that your wedding day has finally arrived, what do you see? A lush rose garden as the backdrop for your ceremony? Vineyards dripping with grapes ready for harvest? Snow-covered mountaintops? By narrowing down your potential wedding date to one season (or two) you can cut down your options in half.

Off season date:

If you are planning a budget friendly wedding, then consider the option of an off-season date, which are the less popular months for weddings by the vendors. This does not mean they are not still as perfect as the others, but these would help you save a few dollars here and there i.e. January – March.

Major holidays:

This ongoing debate whether or not it’s OK to get married during the holiday season, has inspired me to create another post dedicated purely to that question. So stay tuned! In addition to Christmas, Valentine’s Day and New Year’s Eve, you may also want to reconsider tying the knot on religious holidays, event weekends, major sporting events, Father’s Day and other holidays of this nature.

Although holiday weddings can be super fun and festive, your wedding date is something you want to celebrate for years to come because of the meaning behind it, not because it was also NYE. Another thing to keep in mind is the significant costs that are associated with holiday’s weddings.

For example, the price of roses during Valentine’s Day is unbelievable, so having them at your big day could really put a dent in your overall budget.

Sentimental dates:

At this stage, you should have your potential dates narrowed down to a month or two and this is where it gets fun! Within the months that made it to the final round, are there any dates that are meaningful to you as a couple or as individuals? Do you want to honor a family member who is no longer alive by getting married on their birthday or anniversary? Are there any dates you want to avoid?

Book ahead of time:

You have finally narrowed down your top three favorite wedding dates. Next step is to make those phone calls, contact suppliers, and vendors to check if those dates are free. If they are then consider booking them ASAP especially if you are choosing dates within the high season.
