Menswear style 2013 from Phillip Lim

There have been many designers so far this year showing off their collections during the New York and London Fashion Weeks, but one designer which has stood out in men’s fashion is designer Phillip Lim. His style has been described as “Matrix in the fifties” by Vogue.com and that his autumn/winter 2013 collection would have been the outcome.

All glossed black and leathers and apocalyptic patchwork as it was crossed with cool quiffs, bikers and bombers and then pinstripe tailoring and camouflage cagoules. There might have been a lot going on in Lim’s collection, but it worked. The designer specialises in a cut-and-paste style and it was something we saw at his women’s wear show too. But while that, of course, was lighter and fresher for the summer season and a female demographic, this was tough and texture-laden for winter’s tougher climes.

Phillip Lim was born in 1973 and is an American fashion designer born in Bangkok, Thailand, of Chinese parents. Lim co-founded and worked at the Los Angeles based fashion label Development from 2000 to 2004. In the fall of 2005, he co-founded 3.1 Phillip Lim with friend and business partner Wen Zhou, becoming the company’s creative director. Lim has garnered both critical and commercial success with his eponymous line. The Council of Fashion Designers of America awarded Lim the 2007 award for Emerging Talent in Women’s wear for his work at 3.1 Phillip Lim. In 2012, he was awarded the Council’s Swarovski award for Menswear.

Lim teamed texture, colour and design for a funky and edgy autumn/winter 2013 look. Bomber jackets are making a huge comeback during 2013 and Phillip Lim knows it, adding detailed and stylish bomber jackets to his growing collection.

Take inspiration from the Phillip Lim autumn/winter collection and you are sure to look right on style. Pair one of his outfit ensembles with a pair of leather Frank Wright Shoes and some minimal accessories to get that cool and edgy look.
