Going by car? You need to know this

The holiday season is finally ahead of us, which most often means an average mileage of cars. Are you ready for that? We know that in Our Beautiful Drivers are born ready, but the same is not the case with cars and their equipment, so below we give you some tips and recommendations regardless of which side of the world you plan to go.

Check your car's condition before embarking on the journey. In the first place, we refer to tires whose pressure should be at the level prescribed by the manufacturer. This information can be found on the label on the inside of the driver's door. Be sure to check the condition of the coolant, wiper fluid, and engine oil as well and top up if necessary.

If your regular service time is approaching, do yourself a favor and do it earlier this time.

As regards mandatory equipment, it varies from country to country. Fortunately, ours prescribes just about everything you need, so your car should include a first aid kit, reflective vest, triangle, spare bulbs, and spare wheel or tire repair equipment and tow rope. If you are going to Greece or Ukraine, you will also need a fire extinguisher, and if France is your destination, be sure to buy a handy breathalyzer at a gas station.

You should only have a towing hook on the car if you are towing a trailer, otherwise, it must be removed from the vehicle. For drivers operating a gas-powered car, they will need to have a certified gas installation certified.

We also strongly recommend that you, if you haven't already, join HAK. One incident at home or abroad is enough to pay off the cost of a multi-year membership fee.

Regulations vary from country to country, regardless of EU membership, so it is best to read a brief guide to the countries you are going through by clicking the link here. The British AA provides a complete overview of mandatory equipment, major traffic regulations, as well as information on the cost of tolls and vignettes in more than 40 countries.
