The Fashion Spin

It caught my eye almost immediately, with a twinkle of its delicately embroidered sequined shoulder, as I sprinted past the very popular high street store, it was placed by clever merchandising next to the entrance (almost too close i thought) it wouldn't take much for someone to casually walk past and lift it off the rail, no one would pay attention to the habitual sound of the security scanner echoing in a busy shopping centre, and then off it would be that fabulous shade of antique pink, lost amid the greys and blacks of the April shopping crowd. It dawned on me how fashion has applied itself to the current economic state, not only are the shops being adventurous on their merchandising, but the designs are made to glimmer in our eyes, that sparkle reaches our minds eye almost instantly with a promise of instant happiness, our day will be brighter and we will feel feminine and pretty if only we were to purchase this cleverly put together garment. Fashion has always had women as its main aim, and perhaps now it counts on them even more. "necessity is indeed the mother of invention"and the credit crunch has brought us out of the winter of past fashions and breathed new life into our world. Somehow I felt my eyes weren't open to fashion before these lovely subdued palettes, frills and sequins floweringly fluttered on our way.

Interestingly the start the 50's post war years we had the same influx, in 1947 Christian Dior had unveiled his New Look Collection that reflected the woman's desire to escape the present world of economic hardship and to dress in fabulous and feminine clothes, like the present fashion was the tool used to hope for a happier and secure future. And I believe that every deconstructed frill and contour of lace, from the nudes to the flowered prairie dresses we are seeing in the stores have already diffused a little of that golden optimistic light in to our lives, They will ultimately beckon you to them as they did me, and if you can't buy them don't worry as you will undoubtedly feel the reassurance of a brighter day yet to come.

MONOCHROME

The season has hit us with nudes and palettes of pale blue denims with subdued beige's, but monochrome does not die fast, recently spotted Victoria Beckham is working the cropped white trouser and navy Chanel jacket, accompanied by her matching Birkin friend.
