Back in the 60s!

That's So New YorkIn my previous post I did promise that i'd try to keep my next post (meaning this post) a little short, seeming that recently I've been typing away, not realizing that I've rambled on for three or four paragraphs and counting; I will keep to my word as this is a little more of a "I like these pieces; what do you think?" type post. You may be questioning "What on earth is he going to ramble on about this time?" and my answer? Topshop and their recent release of their Fall/Winter 2011 Glam Underground and New Mod collections; believe it or not, there are still two more collections to grace the Topshop website and stores, yet obviously they didn't want to overwhelm us and release everything at once. Despite the fact that I do admire both the Glam Underground and New Modcollections, I am going to orientate this post around that of New Mod as it fits in a little more with the style I have always admired and yet again supports my"girls should wear boys clothes" campaign as the entire collection is orientated around a more masculine aesthetic and that of a "clad Teddy Boy from back in the 60s!"  with it's long sleeved shirts and striped blazers.

The intelligent individual who is frequently given the task of captioning each collection never fails to provide a clear and clean-cut outline of the collection as a whole, whilst throwing in a couple of words which make us think
"This guy/girl really knows what they're talking about!" and the New Mod collection caption was no exception. When introducing the Fall/Winter 2011 New Mod collection, Topshop captions "Get set to dress like one of the boys - a rebelliously clad Teddy Boy from back in the 60s! For AW11, sleek tailoring, geometric patterns, granddad knits and brothel creepers have been given a modern, punk-fuelled twist. Think wool crombie coats with leather inserts, classic sweatshirts with outlandish sleeves and leather mixed with faux fur." - Not to worry, you had me at Teddy Boy. Throughout the caption, various words and phrases were thrown in which instantaneously grabbed my attention; that being the mention of words such as geometric, granddad knits,  punk, leather and faux fur, followed by the mention of that 60s theme; is it just a coincidence that all of these features throughout the collection are things I look for every time I hit an online-store or begin a search for a new designer? I think not, it's fate for sure.

I think I can summarize that this is quite clearly a collection which any vintage lover or girl(/guy) who lives a short train journey away from London central would admire, primarily because the New Mod theme focuses around the same fashion which a bucketful of Camden obsessives and frequent Brick Lane visitors will have been throwing on for more than a fair amount of time; if you're not too sure what I'm referring to, then just think of them garments which you may pull out of your parents wardrobe from their early years and scream "Woah mum! You were sure hip!" in regards to (I have to say I've never done it myself, yet then again my parents are not exactly what you would consider the wild sort.) After scanning through the collection, I couldn't help but pick out a handful of my favorites (and I have to say, it sure wasn't easy) ...
