And George and Amal Clooney were the epitome of Hollywood glamour as the couple walked the red carpet at the Golden Globes on Sunday.

Amal, 36, stunned in a black custom Dior party dress for women with cross-shoulder train and elbow-length gloves, in a look reminiscent of screen legend Audrey Hepburn.

The human rights lawyer, who married 53-year-old George in September, accessorised with diamond drop earrings and a chic white clutch.

Amal's couture gown was fitted at the waist and featured ruching on the skirt which flowed diagonally across her bust into a shoulder strap and elegant train.

Her dark chestnut locks were styled in a deep side parting with some soft waves through the ends.

The duo took a moment to chat with E! host Ryan Seacrest where George said: 'As long as she doesn't get the train stepped on then I've succeeded'

And Amal appreciated her companions gesture, saying 'He’s been really good. Really helpful.'

Of his lady love's statement white gloves, George joked: 'She sewed them this morning,' before adding 'She’s very handy.'

The Gravity actor looked handsome-as-ever in a black tuxedo suit as he accompanied his beautiful wife.

Giuliana Rancic told Dailymail.com on Friday that she thought Amal would be ruling the red carpet when the award show kicked off.

The E! host said: 'Already I'm predicting Amal Clooney will be best dressed in the red carpet. 

'I think she's going to kill it.' she added 

George joked with Seacrest that his wife made her white gloves saying 'She sewed them this morning,'

Her Fashion Police co-star Kelly Osbourne, 30, agreed, adding: 'She has impeccable taste.'

Giuliana, who was speaking at the E! International Press Junket in Los Angeles, went on:

'She's a fashion muse right now. Every designer wants to dress Amal.

'She's not even an actress but she will have first dibs on any dress and any designer she wants. All eyes are going to be on Amal.'   

It's a big night for Oceans Eleven star George as he will be presented the Cecil B. DeMille Award by Julianna Margulies at the star-studded event, which rewards outstanding contributions to the world of entertainment.

Other couples dazzling at the Beverly Hilton Hotel included Naomi Watts, 46, who arrived with partner Liev Schreiber in a sunshine yellow Gucci gown. 

Liev, 46, is nominated for Best Actor in a TV series for his work in Ray Donovan. 

A bearded Matthew McConaughey bucked tradition in an aubergine tuxedo suit with satin waistcoat and lapels.

His stunning wife Camila Alves, 32, wowed in a beautiful pink strapless dress and voluminous up-do. 

Chrissy Teigen wore a blush pink beaded sheath gown by Zuhair Murad and teamed it with a Harry Kotlar radiant cut diamond ring and cushion cut pink and white diamond earrings worth $1 million dollars.

The 29-year-old model was accompanied by husband John Legend who is nominated along with Common for Best Original Song for Glory from the movie Selma.

The three-hour ceremony, which NBC will televise live beginning at 8pm EST, will be hosted for the third year running by Tina Fey and Amy Poehler.

Led by the winning duo, the Globes have been on a terrific upswing in recent years.

Last year's awards drew 20.9 million viewers, the most since 2004. 

As the only major awards show to honor both movies and TV, the Globes have also benefited from television's rise.  

How much Hollywood is ready to laugh about the hacking scandal will be one of the night's story lines to watch, along with the stream of awards and their sometimes tipsy speeches.
