April's Obsession: Color

Since this issue is kicking off our personal style campaign, we've been talking non-stop about different ways to express your individuality through your clothes and taking chances with your style, one particular element that seemed to be the easiest way to start was color! When you're just starting out, it can be hard to determine which colors are right for. Questions like "does this compliment my skin tone" or "do I have anything that could actually go with this" are common and important to address. Also, if your wardrobe revolves around neutrals (like mine does), color can also seem a bit overwhelming. Here are a couple tips that can help get you started in the beautiful world of color!-Start small. If you feel that head-to-toe yellow might make you look more like a large banana than a super model, then start with little punches of color. This dress from Max Studio (top left) is a great way to get started. Mostly black and white, this cotton sun dress offers the safety of neutrals with the pizazz of color in a gorgeous fucshia scarf belt.Cotton sundress in Black/Fucshia, $68, maxstudio.com.-Be brave. If you've tried small doses of brights and now you're ready for the big time, then don't hesitate! You'll never know unless you take a chance and put it on. Try to choose colors that compliment your skin: a safe bet is always deeply saturated color. The paler it gets, the more danger you face in washing yourself out. Try something like this Victoria Secret halter dress in a bright yellow(bottom). The detailing is simple, so the focus stays on the color without appearing fussy.Halter dress in Yellow Daisy, $85, victoriasecret.com
