7 Things You Should Never Do to Your Eyes

8843898092?profile=originalCan you imagine losing your eyesight? What if you wake up one day and are unable to see the world around you? Even thinking about something like this gives us goosebumps. But, ironically, we take very little care of our eyes. It’s human nature. We take things for granted, while we have them. And, when we lose them we can do nothing but regret. Everyone would agree to the fact that we want our peepers to be in the top shape. You need to be more conscious to maintain your eye health than just an annual ophthalmology checkup. You may be thinking about the endless hours that you spend staring at your gadgets. Just because you have unlimited data with one of the internet deals such as Optimum Cable packages. Yes, that’s one reason but not the only one. Even the simplest of slip-ups such as forgetting to wear your sunglasses on a very sunny day, or sleeping with makeup on can pose risks for the eyes over time.

To keep your peepers healthy and vision sharp, we are going to address the top seven risky things, which you should never do to your eyes. You need to understand that your eyes are meant to let you gaze at the beautiful sceneries and lead you through different places. They are not meant to be dyed, pricked with an injection, and soused with homemade saline. You cannot just hurt your eyes and lose your vision in the name of freedom and self-expression. Let’s discuss this further.

A Big No to the Following Habits

Here are some of the things, which you should never do to your eyes:

  1. Sleep with the Contacts on
  2. Tattoo the Eyeballs/White of the Eye
  3. Skip on Checkups
  4. Sleeping with Mascara and Eyeliner On
  5. Wearing Decorative Contacts Without Prescription
  6. Not Checking the Products’ Expiry Dates
  7. Ditching Sunnies in winter

Let’s talk about them in detail.

Sleep With the Contacts On

Contact brands may advertise that their product is safe to sleep in but DO NOT believe that. Even if you have been doing it before, not thinking it as a big deal, stop doing it now. When you sleep with the contacts on, you are actually depriving corneas of oxygen. It may lead to the growth of bacteria. In serious cases, it can lead to corneal ulcers and infections.

Tattoo the Eyeballs/White of the Eye

Have you heard of the Canadian model who ended up partially blinded after the botched tattoo? In the name of self-expression, she decided to have a sclera staining. It was to tint the white of her eyes purple. The tattooing went wrong and the purple dye started oozing out of her eye. Now, after losing her eyesight partially, she considers it a huge mistake.

Also, this eye tattooing trend brings the risk of infections such as HIV, hepatitis C, conjunctivitis and so on if the needles are not clean.

In addition to the health risks involved, the appearance is not very effective either. The body rejects the pigment and it doesn’t stay. Some people are trying to ban the practice due to the risks that it poses.

Skip on Checkups

When we are able to see clearly, we usually tend to skip our annual eye checkups. Never skip the annual checkups with your ophthalmologist. This is the least you can do to ensure healthy eyes. Also, if there’s anything going wrong, you can figure out it in time. For instance, if there is a tumor, a broken artery or a vein, you will get it detected.

Sleeping with Mascara and Eyeliner On

Have you seen the woman on social media who has been sleeping with makeup on for years? And now she had to go through an eye surgery to get rid of thousands of mascara residues immersed in her inner eyelid. Doctors say that they have never seen anything like that before.

This is common knowledge that you should use a makeup remover and cleanse your face before hitting the bed. You’ll find eye makeup removers separately in the market. Make sure you clean all the makeup before you sleep.

Wearing Decorative Contacts Without Prescription

It’s pretty common to wear fashion contacts on occasions like Halloween. They are also known as theatre or cosmetic lenses. But, buying them online or at a gas station is a bad bad idea. And, that too without a prescription. These temporary contacts can damage the cornea and cause infection. If the infection goes bad, it can even lead to blindness.

Contacts are purely medical devices, you cannot wear loose fitting lenses for the sake of fashion and damage you’re your eyes.

Remember, there is no such thing as one size fits every lense!

Not Checking the Products’ Expiry Dates

Make it a habit to recurrently check the expiry dates of your saline solution, contact lenses, cleaning solutions, eye drops, and any other product that you use. Eyes are very sensitive. You just cannot test them with expired products. It may lead to itching and infections.

Ditching Sunnies in winter

Winter sun stays to be a sun. The sun still emits the UV rays and damage the eyes. Make sure you wear your sunglasses around the year. This practice will prevent skin cancer around the eye area, cataracts, muscular degeneration corneal burns, and so on. Go for shades which block 99-100% of all the UVA, UVB rays.

And last but not the least, go easy with your unlimited internet data. You may have an amazing Optimum Triple Play subscription, and you can go on streaming and surfing for hours. But, make sure you don’t spend too much time staring at your gadget screens.
