5 Types of Traditional Kimono

Japanese culture is very rich and unique in its own way. Kimono clothing is a part of Japanese culture. Kimono’s clothing ranges from different occasions. The married and unmarried have different kinds of Kimono. Many celebrities have tried this attire Kimono because of its distinctive design and fabric. This attire is totally different and many foreigners want to try this attire.

Before trying the Kimono one has to try to be aware of wearing this attire according to the occasion because there are types of kimono which are wearable on certain occasions. There is some Kimono which is of plain color and not much of design which is only for formal occasions. Traditional Kimono covers the whole body and it has long sleeve and long length till the toe or the feet.

The 5 Types of Traditional Kimono are as follows:-

1. Furisode:-

Furisode Kimono has long sleeves and the length of the Kimono approximately 85 centimeters to 114 centimeters. It is generally worn by an unmarried woman because it shows that they are eligible for marriage and a legal adult.

2. Komon:-

Komon is worn by unmarried and also married a woman. It is been made with Silk fabric and it is considered as the informal silk kimono with a simple design. The design of the Komon won’t have many designs carved on it but still the komon looks rich and beautiful and are worn in weddings, etc.

3. Tomesode:-

This Kimono is worn by a married woman only and is the formal attire. Tomesode being formal attire have only five crests. The attire is been worn by the guest in weddings and the base color is black but it can also have other colors other than black.

4. Hikizuri:-

Hikizuri is generally worn for a stage performance of traditional Japanese dance. This attire is been designed with variety of design and the color is very bright with a touch of glitz and glam to it.

5. Odori Katamigawari:-

The fabric of Odori Katamigawari is synthetic which keeps the dancers cool and comfortable. It is light in weight and they are colorful. Odori in Japanese means dance so it is traditionally worn by Japanese dancers.
