- Just like the rare Swiss mountain flower Edelweiss - a symbol of prestige and distinction - the fashion brand IDILVICE (pronouced "Edel-vice") was born in the mountains of Switzerland but now it's flourishing on the concrete of Manhattan and recently even in the rolling hills of the San Francisco Bay Area. However as the spelling indicates, the label is not meant to be associated with too much folkloric alpine tradition, but rather and probably in the contrary, with unconventionality.
The IDILVICE fashion label was founded in 1995 by Swiss Native fashion designer Idil from the city of Saint Gallen, Switzerland, who's foundation dates back to the 7th Century and which became famous for their quality textile products, especially embroidery textiles, which are still popular with Parisian Haute Couture designers today.
In search for something less traditional, Master Graphic Designer Idil ventured out to New York City where she fell in love with American Pop Culture. Naturally her designs started beaming unapologetically with colorful graphics and printed pop culture icons and they had the air of sporty street wear styles inspired by Hip Hop and Rock music. Her line became instantly popular with the Rave and Party culture. As time went on, the designers rebellious style became more and more mainstream and today her influences are seen all over the fashion industry. For example, Idil is largely credited for being first to combine sneakers with formal gowns on the runway in 1996. But Idil is not only a trendsetting designer, she also is a leader in the "Made In USA" movement and she is a member of the Save The Garment Center association, which promotes manufacturing in NY. The New Yorker Magazine named IDILVICE one of the few clothing labels left being made right here in the USA.
Launching her line in a 1994 fashion show presentation in Zurich, Switzerland, grated Idil instant celebrity status. This exposure lead to countless endorsements with companies such as Bernina and Philip Morris, amongst others.
IDILVICE was chosen to design the clothing concept for the Swiss National EXPO. In the United States of America, Idil's brand has gained numerous accolades from the most respected fashion publications including WWD, Vogue magazine and the New York Times which declared: "IDILVICE's collection had the combination of elements that make a fashion audience sit up and take notice".
One of the highlights of Idil's career was designing a couture collection for Elvis Presley Enterprises in Memphis, Tennessee. Hollywood has also taken notice with celebrities such as Gwen Stefani and Kelly Osbourne wearing IDILVICE fashions.
The IDILVICE collection was first sold online via it's official online shop in 2006 and the business has grown exponentially every year since then. In 2013, Idil started a second clothing line together with her husband American photographer Carl Posey called Elastic Wonder which focuses on garments made of stretchable fabrics. This new line is also selling wholesale and via it's own dedicated online shop.
Idil's lines have a reputation of being made exceptionally well and produced here in the USA, along with being celebrated as rebellious, trendy & fun fashion.
