About Me ...
Hi all:

I'm the President of Corky & Company. We design and manufacture children's outerwear, swimwear and sportswear for the US, Canadian and European markets.

I love to golf, kayak, dive, garden, landscape and spend time with my family.
Fashion Industry Experience
I'm Alan, owner and co-founder of Corky & Company, a fifteen year old business, which manufacturers children's outerwear, swimwear and sportswear.

For ten years we had our own manufacturing plant in Fall River, MA. During the last five years I've moved my plant to a 15,000 sf building in a free zone in San Pedro de Macoris, Dominican Republic. My company's website is http://www.corkyandcompany.com.

Economics was part of the reason to move my plant, but retaining sewers was our biggest problem. Upon reaching 62 almost all my employees choose to receive social security benefits. Try finding a 30 year old that is willing to make a career of sewing. At least in Fall River, MA there weren't any at any wage.

With the weak dollar, during the last two years we've taken the opportunity to expand our distribution to Canada, United Kingdom and The Republic of Ireland. In the future, I'd like to expand into Germany, France, Australia, New Zealand, Korea and Japan.

As a hobby, I'm a part time blogger. I post once a week to my blog, Corky on Fashion and Profit. http://www.CorkyNation.com is where the blog is hosted.

I have an undergraduate degree in electrical engineering, an MBA and was an executive for a large aerospace company. While working in aerospace I had the opportunity to do business in many countries, so I'm comfortable outside the borders of the USA.

Specialty Stores on Target

As one of the United State's largest apparel sellers, Target has raised the fashion - value bar to new heights and set a standard boutique label manufacturers must exceed to remain successful. Alan - welcome to the fashion industry network.. don't worry, based on what you have said this far, I have no intention on banning your profile. However, please be on your best behavior...(smile). By the way, I have used female legs for my profile image, but I am infact a male. In my opinion, the models legs are more fashionable then my own...

I have today created a group on the site for children's clothing companies. You are welcome to join that group.

Also, you can post your business on a new site I am developing called the Children's Fashion Directory. That site is not yet officially launched, but you can currently add your info to the system.

I just joined this site and am looking forward to the dialog. I'm not sexist, but it sure seems like there is a lack of males in the header photo. Maybe a little photoshop is in order to add a little diversity in gender and race. Homo, hetro or metro I don't care, just give us a couple of guys.

PLEASE powers to be, don't kick me off this site, I'm just giving a little poke in jest to the site owner and asking for an invite as a friend whoever she may be.
