Why It's Important To Wear Properly Fitted Shoes

So many people are unaware of the importance of wearing a good pair of shoes. Your shoes support your entire body, so if you get these wrong, you can experience problems throughout your body, including your head and neck. It seems odd to think that your shoes can affect your head, they’re so far apart, but they can. 

 

During this article, we are going to look at the reasons why it's important to wear properly fitted shoes. We are also going to explore the things that you should be looking for in your shoes to ensure that they are good your health. 

 

Aches and pains

The shoes that you wear can be responsible for many different types of aches and pains. Here's a list of the areas of your body that badly fitting shoes can affect:

  • Your shoulders
  • Your neck
  • Your head

 

That's pretty much your entire body, isn't it? It can affect things like balance and the frequency with which you experience headaches. It can affect how fast you wear your joints out and whether you develop painful ligaments.

 

Yes wearing the right shoes is vital for your overall sense of well-being.

 

Ok, so what should you look for in a decent pair of shoes?

 

  1. The first thing you should look for is a good brand. There are certain brands that are renowned for making good shoes, such as Rieker shoes and Clark’s shoes.  Try to choose shoes that are known for being good for your feet.

 

  1. Next, you need to make sure that your feet are correctly supported.  The heel should sit in the cup off the shoe and there should be no movement there so that your heel is protected on both sides and kept in place.

 

A good pair of shoes will also offer some degree of ankle support, which will help to prevent things like twisting and over flexing.

 

The toes need to be flexible, but only in one direction. You should be able to push up on the toes so that they bend back towards the shoe, but when you bend them down towards the floor, there should be no give. This follows the natural movement of the foot. 

 

If you have a high arch, you will also need some degree of arch support. You can buy these separately or you can buy special shoes that are made for people with high arches.

 

  1. Finally, you need to make sure that the shoes are cushioned and that they provide suspension.  We are not supposed to walk on concrete; it isn't natural.  When we walk on hard surfaces, the shockwaves go through our bones and muscles and over the long-term cause us problems.

 

By choosing well-cushioned shoes, the bounce when you walk, such as Rieker men's shoes, you ensure that the pressure passes through the shoe and not through your body. This then reduces the amount of stress on your body caused by walking on hard surfaces.
