Naomi Campbell – will be one of the special guests at this year’s fashion extravaganza.
“I’m looking forward to meeting her - she seems like a fabulous lady,” said Celia Holman Lee, who is organising the event.
“To me, Naomi Campbell is the greatest supermodel of all time –without a doubt. If Naomi came out on a stage and she had a bag over her head - anybody who knows the industry would say ‘that’s Naomi’. Her walk is unique. She walks like a panther and the way she puts her hands on her waist and cinches it in - that was unique. She gave something to the world of modelling. She was outstanding and I can’t wait to meet her mother, Valerie.”
After the success of last year’s inaugural awards, which attracted entries from around the world, it was decided to develop more events around the showcase which resulted in the new Limerick Style Festival. The festival kicked off this Wednesday with Sparkle & Shine, a fashion show and dinner in Marco Polo Restaurant with the proceeds going to breast cancer research at University Hospital, Limerick.
The centrepiece of the Limerick Style Festival is, of course, the Limerick International Fashion Student Awards this Thursday night which features a spectacular fashion show and awards ceremony showcasing the designs of the competing international student designers. TV3’s Xpose will also be filming the event.
The overall winner of the 2014 Limerick International Fashion Student Awards will receive a €10,000 prize sponsored by the prestigious Brown Thomas group of department stores and an internship with the well-known international fashion brand Frank Lyman Design in Montreal, Canada.
“I’m really looking forward to it - it’s a year’s work for John McNamara, myself and my family. It’s great for City of Culture,” Celia continued.
“It’s great for Limerick Marketing who have helped us as well and if we want to continue having a fashion festival, we have to have something that is different. We have to have something that no other city in Ireland has and we have with this international student awards because there are colleges from all over Great Britain and from Europe taking part.”
Tickets cost €20 and are available from the Limerick Leader office on 54 O’Connell Street or through the Holman Lee agency. Doors open at 7pm.
