Spring 2010 Ready-to-Wear: Footwear

FOOTWEAR_AHH_1258756959.jpg&w=418

Footwear has once again made its mark and truly stepped out on the runway. Possibly most talked about are Alexander McQueen’s impressive creations that only someone as fierce as Lady Gaga could pull off. Yet there were other interesting appearances including the comeback of the clogs, flat sandals that aren’t gladiator (finally!), and boots. Lots of boots. Designers used reptilian skins, metal finishes, hardware, prints, a myriad of straps and girly details to create the “It” shoe.Boots and Booties

It may not be Winter anymore, but boots are here to stay. With cut-outs, mesh, and open-toe options, the updated bootie makes its way a year-round staple. This season, designers lean toward laced-up possibilities and hybrid styles varying from ankle to knee heights.Clogs

You may think it’s just a rumor, but clogs are coming back. Luckily, we aren’t talking about the famous shoes from Holland but a much more refined pair à la Chanel and Louis Vuitton. Clogs this time around range from low heels to chucky heels to stiletto options and range from mules to strappy sandals. Uppers are tacked down with studs – at least there is something familiar.Platforms

Maybe it’s the comfort or that we like to lie to ourselves and be 5 inches taller with much longer legs than we were born with, regardless, platforms are still making a killing on the runway. These sky scrapers continue to go all out with shorten platforms to triple platforms. Boots, pumps and sandals all take a turn to add extra dramatic height.Wedges

For Spring 2010, wedges have evolved past its typical casual feel and become a vital part of the shoe closet. Wedges are shown in dressier options, nicely wrapped up and ruche. Givenchy and Proenza Schouler take it a step further combining the trendy bootie with wedges for wedge booties. Heel heights range from low to high with architectural inspirations.Laced up

Boots, sandals, and flats all take a note from oxfords and corsets. Styles mimic the sophisticated oxford lacing but make it more interesting with stilettos and platforms. Sandals crossover to booties with tall shafts and ghillie lacing. Designers added buckles, zipper trims, studs and ankle ties for extra details.—Annette
