The groom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. James Douglas Smithson Sr. of Rome and Mr. and Mrs. Billy McConnell of Seagrove Beach, Florida. He is the grandson of the Honorable Marilyn Lloyd of Chattanooga and the late Mr. and Mrs. Thomas M. Smithson of Summerville.

A variety of secular music was provided by pianist Beverly Harris and violinist Samantha Lester. Selections included “Sweet Sweet Spirit,” “Edelweiss,” “Jesus Loves Me,” “Canon in D” and “O Happy Day.”

An opening prayer was offered by Morty Lloyd of Chattanooga, uncle of the groom. Kahtryn Nance Courtoy of Marietta, sister of the bride, served as matron of honor. She presented a scripture reading from the Bible given to the bride by her parents on her sixteenth birthday.

The father of the groom served as best man.

The ring bearer was Cooper Matthew Courtoy, nephew of the bride.

The bride, given in marriage by her parents and escorted by her father, chose an ivory gown of satin and tulle. The fitted bodice was hand-beaded with rows of ivory seed pearls, alternating with beaded flower patterns. The slim skirt of the gown extended into a mermaid flare at the bottom and a sweet train at the back. With her jewelry she wore a bracelet given to her by the groom. The bride’s bouquet was composed of ivory and green hydrangea, rosemary and trailing ivy, and hand-wrapped with wide ivory satin ribbon.

Following the ceremony, the parents of the bride hosted a brunch in their home. Refreshments included the bride’s three-teir cake with butter-cream icing overlaid with fondant and served from a silver plateau. The top layer was adorned with green hydrangea.

The groom’s table held chocolate-frosted glazed doughnuts arranged in multiple tiered layers on silver cake plateaus.

The evening before the wedding, the parents of the groom hosted a rehearsal dinner in their home. The couple resides in Acworth.
