The military trend in fashion is one that waxes and wanes. Some years it’s popular, other years we barely see it. But if you can say one thing about the military trend it’s that it’s never ridiculed. It’s not a fashion that people look back on and say, “What was I thinking?” Some people can take it too far, but when worn for the sake of fashion, it’s a look that’s very difficult to get wrong.

This is good news for us 2018-people, because it’s back in fashion. Today, we are going to discuss some of the ways that you can get this style right and be the bell of the ball, or the pub, or wherever it is that you hang out.

A Plethora of Styles within a Style

The first thing that you need to realise about the military look is that it covers a broad range of styles. For example, both Wrangler boots and desert boots are considered part of the military trend, even though they are substantially different in style. This is great news for those of us wanting to pull off the military look because it means that we have plenty of choice. There are checked shirts, jeans, aviator jackets (and sunglasses), even Wren-style dresses, and they all belong to the military theme, which means that it’s fine to mix them.

A Hint of Style

The next thing to note about military style is that you don’t have to go all out and dress from head to toe in military garb. In fact, you should avoid doing that because it can come across as fancy dress or give the impression that you're overly zealous about all things military.

Instead, you can use your military clothing to work as a focal point to your outfit. For example, a great look for a casual winter’s day could be a pair of Wrangler boots, a pair of skinny jeans, a cashmere jumper, and an aviator jacket. This creates a sexy, but relaxed look and it has an edge because you’ve incorporated military clothing into the look.

The Feminine Touch

We just described a super sexy look that you can achieve with the military style, and it’s important to note that this is possible, and in fact, desirable for most of you. Military styles can often leave you looking a little more butch that you might have wanted.

By pairing the clothes up with feminine clothing (e.g. skinny jeans, a chiffon scarf, a tight vest), you can create a juxtaposition in the clothing that emphasises your femininity, rather than creating a look that can appear too masculine.

There’s nothing wrong with the masculine look if that’s what you're aiming for, but if you want to add some feminine twists, then it’s more than OK to do that too.
