There’s an old German song about a person that loves to go wandering with a rucksack on their back. It’s sung to one of those tunes that really does insist you walk at a fast pace.
A ruck sack, or backpack, is the easiest way to carry weight. Through the history of man, it has been the preferred way to carry heavy objects, so it’s not surprising that every army in the world issues soldiers with them.
But in civilian life it’s also frequently seen. Men and women commuting to the office are more likely to have one these days in place of a briefcase.
They’re also useful as hand luggage on flights abroad as they leave hands free for rummaging for tickets and passport. It’s not surprising then that the market for them is strong.
All stores selling luggage will have a good supply of them and not just specialist camping shops as was the case in the past.
Take a brand such as Hype bags that also specialises in Hype Shoes, and amongst the goods will be a large selection of colourful backpacks.
The term, bags, can cover everything from a pencil case to a large rucksack. In between there are handbags and shopping bags along with an assortment of others.
Sometimes people use the word hype, to indicate the object is not up to scratch. Americans use it to indicate cheating. It’s not a very old word and is derived from hypodermic needle first coined in the middle of the nineteenth century.
The shortened version is mid twentieth century. To use it as a brand name may seem a little odd until you remember that the easiest to remember brands often have quirky and even negative names.
